July 31st- Big Birthday wishes go out to Loki the Viszla who turned 6 today! This handsome guy was a bit nervous at first, he didn't seem to understand why he had to wear such a weird thing on his head, but he soon relaxed when he realized there was a cake involved!!! Being the well mannered sweetheart that he is Loki waited very patiently and posed for some great pictures with his cake before getting the ok to dig in!! He LOVED his cake and made sure to help clean up every last little bit before inviting his friends in! Luna, the Pointer, and Bodi and Bela, the Viszlas joined in and had a howling good time (literally)!! Luna and Bodi, especially, could barely contain their excitement and gave Loki the biggest (and loudest) birthday wishes possible!! They had a great time wiggling around before rejoining the group and telling everyone about all the fun they had!! Loki had a great time and can't wait for his birthday cake next year!!!!
July 30th- Happy Birthday to Harley, the Husky! Harley turned 7 years old today but doesn't act a day over 2! (We mean that in a good way of course!) She started coming here fairly recently and had everyone fooled on her first day, making us think she was shy and reserved! By her second day here, her true Husky colors were showing! The sassy, playful girl immediately made friends with the other Huskies- Vinny in particular, who was invited to her party along with Husky mixes Bailey and Calvin (although I wouldn't dare tell them they have anything in them other than Husky)! She devoured her cake and could hardly sit still long enough for us to snap some pictures before dashing back into the playroom for an afternoon of play! Happy Birthday Harley!
July 28th- Boy oh boy, did we have on crazzzy canine birthday party today!! Hudson the border terrier was determined to have as much fun as possible during his party today- the little guy didn't stop wiggling and dancing during his entire party!! Hudson tried on a blue birthday hat, but decided blue wasn't his color and switched to a dashing red instead! He was soooo enthusiastic for his birthday snapshots that we even got pictures of his birthday boogie!! Hudson didn't even give us a CHANCE to take a picture with his birthday cake- he sprung right up and snatched it in midair! We have NEVER seen a little dog eat a birthday cake so fast- 5 seconds flat!!! Hudson then invited his super super energetic small dog pals Snoopy the beagle, Puck the puggle, and Daisy the King Charles to join in the birthday bonanza. We have never seen so many wiggles in one birthday party-- these pups insisted on the craziest party ever!! The gang demanded that Manuel and Erin join in for the birthday shot- the picture perfectly captures the craziness of Hudson's big day :) Happy Birthday Hudson!!
July 26th- Happy Birthday Hannah!!! Little miss Hannah the daschound was thrilled to celebrate her birthday here at Woof Dah! Her parents nicknamed her "Brat", but we have no idea why. . . she was such a great sport during her birthday photo session. . .or was she just super focused on gobbling up that delicious birthday cake?! ;-) Hannah knew exactly what to do when she finally got her paws on that cake. First, she gobbled up all the sprinkles. Then, she carefully licked the peanut butter frosting. Next, she tried the entire cake in her tiny mouth- this little girl will stop at nothing!! We invited her little pup friends Lucky the bichon, Eeyore the rat terrier, and Lucy the American Eskimo to join in the fun. The group was so focused on playtime that we had to beg them to pose for a group picture!! And Hannah must have had a blast at her birthday, because later in the day we caught her hanging out by the party room door- hoping for another birthday cake, we're sure!! :)
July 25th- We had OODLES of DOODLES at Woof Dah! this weekend! Golden Doodles, Labradoodles, & Mini-Doodles, oh my! These super sweet water lovers had SO much fun in the fountains and chasing the hose outside! If you spent any time viewing the webcams, we would be willing to bet you saw a handful of soaking wet doodles running around. We may have even busted someone "swimming" in our auto-refill water bowls...any guesses as to who that may have been? :)
Also, we would like to apologize in advance to Riley the Wheaten's mom & dad...like our doodle crew, she will probably be a tad on the wet side when you pick her up. Riley LOVES being outside, and pretty much gravitates towards the fountains - she just can't get enough of them. When we turn them off for the day, she waits for a chance to chase the hose. Hehe! Thank goodness we have extra towels handy!
July 24th- Have you ever heard of a Chinook? We hadn't until recently when we learned that a sweetie named Mitzi who recently started playing here had a DNA breed test done and it came back that she's part Chinook! (Oddly enough, there is a dog who comes here named Chinook, but he's actually a Norweigan Elk Hound!) Mitzi was rescued from down south and much to the surprise of her new owner, she was pregnant! The family ended up keeping one of the puppies (Kelsey) and finding wonderful homes for the rest of the very large litter. Now, two of the other littermates (Sarge and Lucy) also come here to play! If they ever happen to be here on the same day, it's SO adorable to watch them find each other immediately and they're pretty much inseparable the whole day! They think Mitzi mated with a boxer, giving some of the puppies their brindle coat. Whatever the case, these puppies are soooo cute and guaranteed to grow pretty big! At about 8 months, they're already bigger than some labs! We're so glad they all come here to play and we have our fingers crossed that maybe more of the littermates will also come!
July 23rd- Happy Birthday Keeva!! Keeva, the beautiful boxer mix, turned 5 years old and was VERY happy to celebrate her big day with us! Although she's cute and she knows it, she apparently seems to think all pictures taken of her need to look like mugshots! Not today, though! She was so happy to devour her cake, she couldn't help but wear a big smile! She dove into that cake, nose first and proceeded to eat every last bite with a big glob of peanut butter frosting stuck to the top of her nose! Her look-a-likes Mela and Kitra joined her, as well as Ruby the terrier mix puppy. Thank you to Keeva's parents, who also brought party favors with toys and treats for her friends to enjoy! We hope you had a fun day!
July 22nd- Happy Birthday Sam!!! Sam, or "Little Sam" as she is known here, has been coming to Woof Dah! since she was just a little puppy. Well ladies and gentlemen, she's not so little anymore- Sam has grown into a beautiful boxer! Little Sam has the sweet personality of a princess, so of course she insisted on a girly princess hat for her birthday snapshots! Sam is such a sweetie that she refused to sample her birthday cake until we gave her the okay. . .but we've never seen a princess with such good manners eat a cake so quickly!! Sam then invited her boxer pals Rocco and Butters and new playmate Harley the husky to join in the festivities. The group posed politely for a picture before enjoying a birthday boxing romp! Happy First Birthday Little Sam!
July 21st- Today we had an awesome group for Bentley's big birthday party bash. In fact, we had 4 sassy, smart and opinionated Schnausers attending (and telling us exactly just how the party should be run!) Bentley really enjoyed having Izzy and Molly, two cutie-pie Schnauser sisters and eligible bachelorettes! Bentley made it clear that he wanted his party to be held at the opposite end of the party room to where most parties are held and insisted that his adorable brother, Teagan join in for the entire party and even shared the cake with him! Once Bentley got what he wanted, it was all out fun from there! Happy Birthday!!!!
July 20th- We sure had a howling good time in the party room today! Max the Border Terrier mix sang 'Happy Birthday' to himself to get the party started. After sitting nice for his cake, he decided one bite was enough, and told us that he'd MUCH rather be partying with his pals than eating. (FYI: his friends thought he was crazy - who passes up on CAKE?!?) Once it was official that the cake was not interesting enough, Max invited his special friends, Asia the Lab mix, Daisy Mae the Puggle, & Izzy the Shih Tzu mix into the party room for a dance party. This crazy crew hopped, skipped, and jumped all around - enjoying every second of their private play time. After they were all worn out, the pups sat nice, and said cheese for a *CUTE* group shot. Good times had by all. If you're lucky enough to be in the lobby when Max goes home tonight, you'll get to hear him tell mom ALL about his fun day. ;) Happy Birthday Max!!
July 19th- With the weather finally being a little less unbearably hot, many of the dogs who typically prefer staying inside in the air conditioning enjoyed playing outside today. We had many golden retrievers walking around with wet heads from playing in the fountains and with the hose! And Molly, the wise old basset hound who normally insists on having a bed all to herself, was nice enough to allow Cooper, a 4 month old golden doodle puppy, to share it with her. Awwwwww...
July 18th- Leave it to Zeus the Shepherd mix to find ANOTHER wild and crazy way to play in the fountains today! This little rascal spent a good portion of his morning outside "stepping on" the smaller fountains with his front paws, making the water "disappear"...and then (when he was good and ready) Zeus would unleash a wave into the sky - sometimes into other nosy dogs' faces...hehe! Way to be creative Zeus, we love ya for it!
July 17th- Happy Birthday to Emma the black lab!! Emma loves absolutely everybody, but since we wouldn't be able to fit everyone in camera view for a picture, we chose just a few friends for the group shot. She celebrated with Dodger the yellow lab, Mia the yellow lab, and Willy the labradoodle. They were all pros at posing for the picture! When it came time for her cake, Emma wasn't really sure if it was something she was allowed to have! She kept looking at us asking for permission! What a sweetie! She decided to go for it and ate the topping off in one quick bite! Emma's parents were so nice and brought treats to share with all of Emma's puppy friends, and her human ones, too!
July 16th- A big Happy Birthday goes out to Dexter, the basset/cocker spaniel mix! We can't believe it's only your first Birthday!! You started coming here when you were just a little puppy and it's been so fun to watch you mature into the handsome pup that you are! You'll always have that adorable puppy look no matter how old you get, with that cute extra-long tail with the curl at the end! Maggie & Ellie the Bassets and Max the Springer Spaniel really enjoyed partying with you today! We hope you had a great day!
July 15th- Today we had double the birthday trouble. . .we were thrilled to celebrate two birthdays today!! The first birthday was for our very handsome Fritz the Vizla! Fritz struck such a proud pose as we snapped his birthday headshots- this dog sure has perfect posture!! Fritz was so eager to eat his birthday cake that he licked up ALL the frosting with one big LICK! And why eat off a plate when you can eat off of the floor?! Fritz invited his favorite pals Eve the Weimeraner, Cinder the lab/pointer mix, and Luna the pointer to join the birthday festivities.
Our second birthday was for one of our daycare SUPERSTARS- Skippy the lab mix! We convinced Skippy to stop playing "flying fetch" long enough to celebrate his big day! Skippy usually goes 110% ALL THE TIME but sweetly and calmly posed for his birthday snapshots. When we showed him the cake, Skippy skipped the whole "blow out the candle!" part and grabbed the cake off the plate in one flying leap!! Skip made sure to get every last morsel of his hamburger and rice cake. We then invited his rough-and-tumble favorite playmates Rosie the golden, Lucy the golden, and Daisy the yellow lab to join in the birthday romp. The crazy gang enjoyed their private playtime (with a ball, OF COURSE) before posing for an adorable group picture. Happy Birthday Skippy!! Happy Birthday Fritz!!
July 13th- Oh boy...OH boy...OH BOY! Our terrific trio - Chance the Golden, Keenan the Shepherd mix, & Tucker the Black Lab mix very OH SO excited to celebrate their birthdays with us today. 3 doggie birthdays = 3 times the fun, right guys?!? These well behaved brothers made sure to say pretty please and thank you for their delicious birthday treat. Their eyes twinkled, and the drool flowed at first sight of their scrumptious cake. Since they are such nice boys, they decided to share their cake, and took turns passing it around like a hockey puck on the party room floor. Plate? Who needs a plate?? Special thanks to the boys for licking the floor clean for us! ;) Once the cake vanished (which took all of a minute) they were joined by daycare pals Sadie the Doberman mix, Maggie the Golden, Coal the Black Lab, and Mookie the Bernese. The party room was hoppin', and we tried OH SO hard to capture the moment with a GIANT group photo...we worked our magic and got ALMOST everyone to look at the same time, wowie that was wild! Thanks for the laughs guys, we hope you had as much fun as we did!
**Birthday party update: Party guest Coal the Black Lab has the SAME collar on as our Birthday Boys - how PERFECT was that? Chance, Keenan, & Tucker are VERY fashionable guys. The must have a closet full of collars for their special occasions...I believe this one was called "Woofstock" - hehe! Also, a HUGE thanks to Mama S. for party favors and snacks (yummmmmy!!!).
July 12th- Heeee's baacckkk....Skippy, the famous ball player who puts everyone else's jumping skills to shame, is back from vacation and here to stay! Boy, have we missed you! This black lab seems to have springs for legs and always lands on his feet, usually after doing a full flip mid-air! (We really think he's actually part cat...) This, of course, means all the other dogs have less of a chance of actually being able to catch the ball, but we try to play fair and throw it directly to them so Skippy doesn't get to win every time. :)
July 11th- What a great day for a BIRTHDAY - don't you think?!? Barley sure thought so! This super sweet yellow lab has had a blast playing hard with us all weekend - he was ALMOST too tired to celebrate - until he realized there was cake involved, that is! Barley was quite the gentleman when it came to cake time. He posed perfectly for his photos. After giving us a little sniff of approval, he nibbled away at the peanut butter frosting - yummmmmy! Once he had his fill, Barley invited his favorite playmates Zeus the Shepherd mix, Kirra the German Shepherd, and Eve the Weimaraner for a wrestle fest in the party room. The crew had the time of their lives, and we've got photos with big smiling puppy faces to prove it. Thanks for spending your birthday weekend with us Barley, we had a blast!
July 10th- We would like to wish Daisy the Beagle/Shepherd mix a very HAPPY birthday today! After a morning of prancing around the play room with her head held high, (she MUST have known it was HER special day) Daisy let us know it was time for her party to begin. She must have smelled the peanut butter frosting all the way from the kitchen because she KNEW there were treats to be eaten as she marched into the party room. After posing like a princess (with 3 different hats), and devouring her scrumptious cake, Daisy invited her pals Abby Rose the Shepherd mix, Meggie Blu the Blue Heeler mix, and Sam the Doberman to play and pose for a round of photos. The group posed like pros, and had an absolute blast! Thanks for celebrating with us Daisy! Also, thanks to Daisy's mom for such cute SPIDERMAN party favors - adorable!! :)
July 9th- Today was a very, very special day- we celebrated daycare regular CALVIN the shepherd mix's birthday!! The Calvinator was so thrilled to hang out in the party room that he barely let us snap a headshot of him! However, his adorable shepherd ears perked up as soon as we brought out his birthday cake- made with his FAVORITE food in the WHOLE world-- Hamburger and Rice!! Calvin could barely contain his excitement as he "blew" out his birthday candle and got that first lick of delicious peanut butter frosting. He was so determined to finish the entire cake that he stuffed the whole thing in his mouth! Calvin Leroy (we know his middle name!!) looooves playing with little dogs, so he was joined by pint-size pups Lucky the Bichon mix, and sisters Maggie and Ellie the bassetts. The gang posed for an adorable birthday picture and enjoyed their private birthday romp. Happy Birthday Calvin Leroy!! :-)
July 6th- Today we celebrated Emma, the adorable little cockapoo's, 3rd Birthday! The little princess wore her hat like a pro and posed perfectly for her pictures! She even knew the exact moment to tilt her head for the cutest portrait! She devoured the topping of her cake in just one big bite but had to take a moment to get all the peanut butter off of the roof of her mouth! Emma spent the morning partying it up with friends Bailey, the beagle, Bella the beagle/rat terrier mix, and Samantha the terrier/poodle mix, not to mention lots of attention from the staff- her favorite! We hope you had a great, fun-filled morning!
July 5th- Parents trickled in throughout the day, most exhausted from a weekend of VERY warm fun, to pick up their equally exhausted puppies! After a hard weekend of playing, the pooches were happy to see their families and looked forward to at least a couple days of sound sleeping. What a great weekend we had, filled with so many familiar faces and quite a few new pals who made this their first visit. We hope to see you all again very soon!
July 4th- Happy 4th of July!!! With the weather being a little bit cooler today the dogs enjoyed spending lots of time outside!! They especially had fun with the frozen nylabone toys we created by freezing some nylabones in water!!! Bella, the Black Lab, and Onyx, the Lab/Bassett mix, were especially intrigued by the frozen treat and even managed to walk off with the giant ice chunk several times!! Both were finally able to melt through the first treat and were especially happy to show off their new bones to all their friends! Reagan, the Doberman, and Oliver, the Westie, also joined in the ice-melting fun and even Slim, the boxer, showed up to take a few licks!!! Bailey, the Husky, who usually only plays with other Huskies, decided that when in doubt a Beagle will do!!! She had lots of fun chasing and wrestling with Cooper and Sam, both Beagles!!
July 3rd- We hope that everyone's holiday weekend is getting off to a good start today. The weather is great so far! We have an awesome group of puppies this year and tomorrow we have some secret plans for some really fun outdoor activities! The morning is again starting out with some of our bravest guests trying to take down the fountains! What a sight!
Kenyon's mom sent us an email with just of few of the really cool names from the new movie Avatar: The Last Airbender. Puppy names anyone??? Azula, Katara, Zuko, Ty Lee, Mai, Suki, Hakoda, Zuko, Tykka
July 2nd- What a day of fun in the fountains! It was a group effort to kill that pesky water shooting up from the ground. Gracie the Cairn Terrier fought with all her might to destroy one, while Onyx the Black Lab/Basset mix took on another, and Niko the Golden Retriever puppy jumped in wherever he felt he was needed the most! Bella, the Black Lab puppy, was the bravest of them all, going for the powerful geyser-like one right in the middle! Boy were they exhausted by nap time!
On a more somber note, it is Tex, the Pointer's, last day here for a while. He and his family are moving down south but hopefully will come back to visit over the holidays. Tex has been coming almost daily for years! Many of you probably have noticed Tex sleeping in various odd positions on the beds and couches, whether it's on top of another dog or with his head at an angle that doesn't seem anatomically possible! He will be greatly missed and we can't wait until he gets to visit again!
July 1st- We celebrated a birthday party today for a dog whose personality matches the weather outside- golden and sunny!! Casey the golden lit up our party room with his sunny, smiley self and was such a sweetheart as he posed for his birthday pictures. He even cracked the biggest smile EVER when we asked him to! Casey displayed his wonderful manners, sitting and staying like a champion, and didn't even "blow out" his birthday candle until we gave the okay! Casey invited golden retriever look-alike pals Carter and Tank to join in the fun, and also invited his brand new girlfriend Dakota the weimeraner!! The crew was thrilled to spend some private party time together, so much that we could barely snap a group shot of the action! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASEY!!
June 30th- Today we had an awesome, Independence Day theme birthday party for Indy the Setter/Shepherd and ??? Mix. Indy's mom brought a super cool fact sheet all about Indy and how they got her on July 3rd. That's why she's named Indy, for Independence day! Pretty cool huh? Indy is well known around daycare for her low pitched woo woo noises and loud "killer squirrel" alerts. She's also very well known for being a very talented "teacher's pet" and agility ramp climber. Indy's party was a wild one. After inviting wild guests Murphy and Roxy, Indy decided to take her group shot with some calmer pals. Thanks to Indy's mom for the super cool 4th of July party bags for all the guests and friends at daycare today. I'm sure they will all be pooped!
June 29th- Guess what ladies and gents? We have a Jr. Hunter in the house! Abby the Golden spent her weekend completing the last of her official field trials - earning 4 ribbons and her title. Way to go! It takes lots of hard work and dedication to achieve a title like this, congrats to Abby's mom and dad for working so hard with her to reach this milestone. We would like to say good luck in advance to any birds that attempt to land in our outdoor plaza when Abby's around. :)
June 28th- Today we said goodbye to Pali, the husky, as she and her family moved down south. Pali started playing here when she was just a little puppy and it's been sooo fun watching her mature into a sassy, fun-loving adult! Pali ALWAYS had something to say when we walked into the room with her deep "roo-roo's" and big smile. When she earned enough Bark Bucks to trade them in for a toy, she loved to pick out her favorite and prance around the lobby with it (sometimes trying to take two). We'll miss her sooo much and we hope she and her family love their new home (but have reason to come back and visit us soon)! After all, Pali will definitely need a break from that hot weather!
June 26th- Wow what an exciting day today!! After the big storm last night all of the doggies were ready to get outside and play!! The sun was shining brightly as the dogs enjoyed running and playing through the fountains out on the Plaza. We had lots of newbies staying with us this weekend and all of our "Woof Dah! veterans" were happy to show them how things are done around here. They are going to be seasoned pros by the time Sunday rolls around!! Lucky, one of our new Goldendoodles, was so tuckered out he decided the best place to take a nap was next to the brooms....who needs a bed!!!
June 25th- If you looked at Jake and Hank you'd think they could be littermates! But these two lion look-a-likes are completely unrelated and are, in fact, both mixed breeds! Hank has been staying with us several times a year for as long as we can remember, and Jake just recently joined the playgroup and has been coming for daycare weekly. Both have sweet, loving personalities, and we're so glad they finally got to meet today!
June 24th - Big Birthday wishes go out to Oscar the Border Collie today!! Oscar celebrated his 2nd birthday with us by first getting all his friends together for a big game of fetch out on the plaza. The weather was perfect for some fun in the fountains and Oscar just couldn't get enough!! Later Oscar munched on some delicious birthday cake, he was quite hungry after such an active morning!! He then invited his fetching partners in crime Toby the Golden Doodle, Rosie the Border Collie, and Carly the Australian Shepard Mix to party with him and enjoy yet another exciting round of fetch!! These party animals just kept on going!! After such an exciting morning the group enjoyed a long nap before returning, once again, to playing fetch!!
June 23rd- Happy Birthday to Mikey, the ball chasing, ball herding, ball obsessed and super adorable Boston Terrier! Mikey wanted to invite ALL of his many friends to his party so he chose to invite Mikko the Boston Terrier, Dakota, a Brittany/Terrier Mix, Marley, a Shiba Inu AND Mikey's most favorite of favorites, his BIG BLUE BALL. We will have to say, though, that having his big blue ball at the party got pretty wild and the ball had to make an unplanned exit before cake and picture time :-) Thanks also to Mikey's mom for bringing in some really yummy smelling homemade doggie treats to share. Our staff contemplated "testing" them out this morning, but Mikey's dad said he already did. We wish you many more happy and healthy birthdays!
June 22th- The next time you check out our pirate ship, it's side might look a little bare. Apparently the decorative starfish dangling from it's net looked extra tasty today. Leave it to one of our new kids, Cody the Golden, to set his sights on these crunchy treasures. With a giant smile on his face, it was obvious that Cody was pretty proud of himself as he showed us just how high he could stretch up the side of the ship in his attempts to capture a 5-legged treat. What a little smarty pants! This brainiac was part of our super cute "new kid" pack today. We'd like to offically welcome Cody, Koda, Zoey, Macy, Lucky, Dante, & Starbuck to our Woof Dah! family, and we can't wait until they all come back to play again!
June 21st- Today the purple walls of Woofdah rang with a loud "Happy Birthday Ziggy!!" Ziggy the puggle was pumped to celebrate his birthday in our private party pad! Ziggy must've been a puppy model, because he was willing to strike every adorable pose we asked for (in addition to being pretty darn cute)!! Ziggy even performed his most fantastic trick for us- when you put your foot on your other knee, Ziggy will jump through the hole with a FLYING leap! Ziggy invited small doggie pals Bella the beagle/rat terrier mix, Joey the Jack Russell terrier, and Bailey the beagle mix to join in the birthday fun. The little guys were so cute as they scurried around the party room before pausing for a birthday snapshot. Happy Birthday Ziggy!! :-D
June 18th- We have a really awesome new dog with a really awesome story who is staying with us this weekend. Ranger is a very, very sweet and gentle Husky/Shepherd mix who was rescued from a place where the people didn't want him around. They tried to kill him by shooting him in the nose. Fortunately, Ranger survived with only a few physical scars and some metal left in his skull. He is now blessed with an adoring family and you'd never know he was ever mistreated with his loving demeanor. We've had tons of dogs get to come to visit us after some pretty terrible things happened to them. It's always amazing just how resilient these dogs are after all they've been through. From physical abuse, to neglect cases, to being left for dead (and thankfully found) in a dumpster, there are really some lucky puppies out there. (and a lot of puppies named Lucky, come to think of it!)
We're also pleased to annouce the hiring of an awesome new staff person! Amanda will be a Senior at Burnsville High School next fall and will be starting at Woof Dah! in mid-July. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a writing tutor and an FCA leader. She has a Black Lab/Beagle mix named Toby who gets to go to the dog park a lot! We look forward to adding her to our already outstanding team!
June 17th- Hooray for Sadie's Birthday!! Sadie the King Charles Spaniel has been coming to play ever since she was a tiny little puppy. . .it has been a joy to watch her grow up! We were thrilled to celebrate this little princess's birthday, and we kicked off the celebration by crowning her with a pretty pink princess birthday hat. Sadie gave us a huge grin as we snapped her birthday photos, and even stood proudly on her back legs to blow out her birthday candle!! We then invited her sister Jayla the King Charles to help share in the birthday cake fun. The cake must have been ear-lickin' good- we caught Jayla licking peanut butter frosting off Sadie's ears!! Awwwww!! :-) The sisters were soon joined by their handsome friends, Jimmy James the Lhasa Apso and Freddie the Shih Tzu. The group enjoyed birthday playtime before snuggling up for an adorable picture. Happy Birthday Sadie!!! Thanks also to Sadie's mom for the super yummy people Chex mix type substance that is highly peanut buttery flavored and very addictive!
June 16th- Today it seems like the sun can't decide if it wants to shine or not! Well, inside at Woof Dah! we had plenty of sunshine-- because birthday boy Zach has the biggest, brightest smile you've ever seen!! Wacky Zachy the golden retriever is one of our long-time doggie customers, he has been coming to play with us ever since he was a little guy. Zach definitely knows today is a special day, because he kept bouncing over to staff to remind them that today is his birthday!! Zach is also an old-timer at birthday parties, so he told US what to do! First, he headed straight for the birthday hats and told Lisa Marie to select a bright green hat that would perfectly compliment his beautiful golden coat. Next, he sat and smiled his huuuuuge grin for his birthday headshot! He then zoomed around the room, searching for his birthday cake, and gobbled it up in seconds when we gave him the "ok". Zach then insisted on having TWO rounds of birthday guests!! First, he hung out with other old friends Slim the boxer, Tex the pointer, and Tonka the boxer. Then he insisted we bring in Lucy the golden, Cubby the golden, and Tucci the rottweiler mix. Everyone was so excited to celebrate Zachy's birthday that we could barely snap a group picture! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZACH!!
June 15th- We'd like to thank all of our existing customers for being so patient with us as we adjust to our new facility. We've had an unexpectedly large number of new dogs wanting to come and play as well as lots of walk-in tours. All those tours and new dog orientations take up a lot of staff time at the front desk. Also, as some of you have noticed, we are hiring again. Lisa Marie has been accepted to the University of Minnesota at Duluth to attend Medical School. She will be starting in August. We have had tons of bright and cheerful applicants and are looking forward to our "working interviews" with them over the next few weeks. We are also really, really, really looking forward to a sunny day tomorrow. Our fingers are crossed :-) Have a great day everyone!
June 10th- It may have been a dreary, rainy day outside. . .but inside we were having a blast celebrating Remmy the lab mix's third birthday!! It didn't take Remmy long to get his birthday headshot out of the way and get to what he was REALLY at his party for. . .his super special birthday cake!! Remmy blew out the candles with a big grin and proceeded to gobble down his cake. We then invited his daycare friends Sadie the doberman mix, Rucci the rottweiler mix, and Casey the Australian shepherd mix to help celebrate. With all these "mixes", we sure had a great birthday "mixer"!! :-D The group was eager to pose for their group shot and enjoyed a fun sniff session around the party room. HAPPY BIRTHDAY REMMY!!
June 7th- Did somebody say CAKE?!? Joey the Jack Russell sure mastered that word today! At 8 years young Mr. Joey jumped for joy at the sight of his tasty treat. Even though the cake was pretty much the size of his body, Joey insisted on TRYING to lick up every last bite. When we told him he had to save some for later, he jumped right up onto the shelf where we keep the goodies for one final bite. Who could deny that cutie pie one more lick of peanut butter?? After he was completely satisfied, Joey invited his BFF's Tango the Jack Russell mix, Ziggy the Puggle, and Max the Border Terrier mix to a wiggle fest, AKA small dog party. The group had a BLAST posing for their photos with special guest Erin helping to make sure everyone smiled big and looked their best for the camera. Woo hoo! We sure had a blast celebrating with you today Joey!
June 5th- *H*A*P*P*Y* *B*I*R*T*H*D*A*Y* *B*O*D*I*E!! This handsome little man came to daycare with an extra skip in his step today - he MUST have known there was cake and a party hat waiting especially for him on his very important day. Party time couldn't come quick enough for this roly poly puggle. Being the popular man that he his, he instantly picked out pint-sized pals Lucy & Dexter the pug mixes, to join himself and sister Bella the Boston/Frenchie mix in a fabulous birthday bash. Bodie was SUCH a nice boy, he even decided to share part of his cake with his sister - SO CUTE! Thanks for celebrating with us Bodie, we wish you many more HAPPY birthdays to come!!
June 2nd- Today we were feeling a little "blue". . . .because we were thrilled to celebrate Blue the Tibetan terrier's birthday!! Roly-poly Blue was a terrific sport as he sat for his birthday headshot! When we unveiled his birthday cake, Blue insisted on sampling it right away!! Blue proved to us that you don't need a plate to have your cake and eat it too. . .he grabbed that cake straight off the plate and insisted that he eat off the floor! Blue was joined by brother Gus the Tibetan terrier, and we snapped adorable pictures of their smiling faces :-) Blue also invited Murphy the beagle mix and Gabby the mini Aussie to play, and the birthday crew paused long enough for a group shot before continuing their private playtime. Happy Birthday Blue!!
June 1st- Happy first of June!! Today we kicked the month off right by celebrating Harley the black lab's sixth birthday!! Harley has been a daycare regular since he was a pup and Woofdah is like a second home to him! And any party with Harley as the guest of honor is not complete without his favorite thing ever. . .BALLS! Handsome Harley remembered his puppy manners when we unveiled his SECOND favorite thing ever. . .BIRTHDAY CAKE!! Harley gave the cake a few good licks before gobbling it right up. Hey, who said you have to blow out your candle when you can EAT it instead?! Harley then invited his daycare regular pals Margot the chocolate lab, Tex the pointer, and Gordy the yellow lab for his birthday romp. Taking the group picture was hilarious- Margot and Tex would only pose for a treat, Harley would only pose for a ball, and Gordy would only pose for a squeaky toy! Lisa Marie sure felt silly as she held a ball, treat, squeaky, and camera in her hands. . .but the picture turned out GREAT! Too bad Harley's birthday didn't include his third favorite thing ever. . .POOLS!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARLEY!!
May 31st- Happy Memorial Day to all. May we remember those who served our country!
On a somewhat somber note, we were all very sad to say goodbye to our fabulous co-worker, Alee, today. We wish her well as she moves on to the next chapter of her life - VET SCHOOL! Congrats Alee, best of luck! We'll miss you!!!
May 30th- Today we had a howling good time with all of our weekend buddies for the Memorial holiday. Cooper and Bella led the troops in a chorus that rang from Coconut Grove to Pirates Cove! A new friend would walk through the door and they would be the first to say "Hello and Welcome!". Our pups were extra tired today from all the fun they had in the fountains, so nap time was true to it's name. Everybody chose a spot to relax and we all enjoyed a nice rest this afternoon.
May 29th- We started off our Memorial Day weekend with a birthday blowout for Sammie the beagle mix! Sammie the sweetheart chose a dashing red birthday hat before posing for her birthday snapshots. Sammie then surprised us by showing off her ADORABLE dance moves- she danced straight for the cake as soon as she saw it! We were lucky enough to capture a picture of her cutie pie moves! She munched on her milkbone sprinkles and peanut butter frosting while we ushered in her party guests- Daisy the black lab mix, Dani the shepherd mix, and Cooper the coonhound. The gang was so excited to hang out for their private birthday romp, and were so sweet as they posed for a group picture. Happy Birthday Sammie!!
May 27th- How many hats does a birthday party need? How about three different colors! We tried blue and paw prints before finally settling on red for Lulu, the Shiba Inu's third birthday. Her delightful ears just didn't like the other hats! With a smile on her face, she gladly posed for her portrait shot before licking up her cake. Then she called in her pals with ears to match. Ein and Roxy the corgis joined in, as well as long time buddy Eeyore the rat terrier. What a fun crew it was, gatherin them together and finding just the right word to perk up those beautiful ears! Happy Birthday Lulu, thanks for letting us help celebrate!
May 26th- Happy Birthday to our resident princess, Wrigley! Wrigley invited fellow princess and fellow Setter, London, to her party along with old time pals Harley and Margot to join the fun! She has always worn pink hats for the many birthdays she's had here at Woof Dah! so this year we went for a new theme.... Purple! She looked great as she modeled the purple birthday hat for us! For cake time, Wrigley was again, a true princess, removing the frosting promptly and chowing it down, then nibbling the cake till it was all gone. Wrigley has been coming since she was a tiny little puppy and it has been a blast for us to celebrate each special year with her at Woof Dah! We are lookin forward to may more!
May 24th- We have a new Woof Dah! record to report today. The "longest breath-holding underwater" award goes to Harley the chocolate lab. 10 whole seconds without air - we thought we were going to have to send in a lifeguard! Harley lived up to his breed name today and retrieved like you wouldn't believe! While underwater, he managed to haul up 3 giant boulders from the bottom of the pool...wowie! Who knew rocks could be so much fun? We would also like to report our small but mighty Lucy & Tucker (the Cavachons) enjoyed a dip in the pool today as well. It must have been the heat - they were splish splashing all over the waterfall! And we can't forget to mention Rosie the Golden's lap swimming efforts. Around and around she went - absolutely perfecting her doggy paddling. Way to go swimmers!
May 23rd- We would like to send a special "sweet dreams" to Joey the Gordon Setter mix tonight! This energetic goofball is here for his very first SLEEPOVER! After running around with his pals all afternoon, we're sure he will snooze the night away on his very favorite bed in our super posh SLUMBER BAY. Nighty night Joey!
May 22nd- Rain, rain, go away, come again...whenever you want? Thunder? What thunder? The pups didn't even bat an eye as the thunderstorm rolled through this morning. They were WAY too busy chasing balls, playing tag in the pirate ship, and staking out "their spots" in the playroom to even notice! Hooray!!! Hint: if your dog is anxious during storms, Woof Dah! sure is the place to be when one is brewing!
Also, we would like to report that Wacky Zachy has officially broken in his spot on the agility tables. He sure looooooooooves his table - the tall one in particular - it must be the perfect spot to "supervise" all those young pups. Yay Wacky!
May 21st- Today was another very exciting day in our new building!!! Although the weather wasn't the best the doggies still enjoyed running and playing in the fountains outside on the "Plaza." Finnegan, the Newfoundland, and Flash, the water dog, were joined by a few other friends in a great game of chase, running in and out of the fountains. Later, a very enthusiastic bunch enjoyed splashing and playing on the rocks in "Bahama Falls." Everyone was definitely exhausted by nap time and many of the dogs enjoyed a long snooze before returning back to playing!!
May 20th- We were thrilled to celebrate Daisy the yellow lab's second birthday today!! We threw a birthday bash fit for the princess she is! Princess Daisy wiggled her way to the party room and selected her paw-print adorned birthday hat- we must say she has GREAT taste! Daisy gobbled up her birthday cake and showed us her biggest butt wiggles yet when her party gang of Skippy, Chili, and Tucker arrived! We must say, Princess Daisy has a thing for those black lab boys. . .we snapped an adorable picture of Daisy and birthday boyfriend Skippy snuggling up side-by-side! Daisy was all seriousness for her birthday headshot but wore the biggest smile EVER during her group picture- what a birthday flirt ;-) HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAISY!!
May 19th- Today was a glorious day for a splash! In the morning sun, Kota enjoyed jumping through the grand central fountain bubbler. Norman and Pali had a great time trying to "catch" that run-away stream of water! Many pups enjoyed the gentle mist of the smaller fountains, watching the drops catch the sunrays. After bouncing around in the our "Plaza" fountains earlier in the morning, the day-care crew wiggled with joy to the "Bahama Falls". Many dogs only come once a week, so it was all new today for our Wednesday pack. What a time they had! There was plenty of exploration to do, what with rocks and a waterfall to navigate around. We sure had some tuckered pups at nap time today, thanks to a little water and sunshine!
May 18th- Day 2, party 2! If you haven't figured it out by now, it's safe to say we're all about the parties here at Woof Dah! We loooove celebrations! Today was an extra special day, because an extra special pup turned ONE! Willis, the Brittany Spaniel, must have known today was not just an ordinary day...he seemed to have an extra spring in his step all morning! After bouncing around the playroom and dashing through the outdoor fountains, Willis decided to invite 3 lucky ladies to his birthday bash. Rosie the Golden, Colbie the Husky mix, and Kirra the German Shepherd were proud to attend such a handsome boy's party. The group played hard, posed perfectly, and had a blast. We hope you enjoyed your special day Willis! Thanks for sharing it with us!!
May 17th- Today we broke in our party room digs by celebrating Morgan the golden retriever's birthday!! Morgan has the prestigious honor of being the first dog to have a birthday at our new place :-) Mr. Morgan was oh-so-dapper in his green party hat as he inspected every corner of the party room before giving it "woof" of approval!! He was so busy checking out the new room that he barely gave his birthday cake a passing sniff. . .too many other new sights and smells to explore!! Morgan was joined by a golden retriever gang of Casey, Buddy, and Piper! The pups enjoyed a high-energy birthday romp. . .which made them soooo tired that they insisted on laying down for their group pic! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MORGAN!!
May 16th!!- The day we've been waiting months and months for has finally arrived!! Happy FIRST day in our brand-spanking-new building!!! We don't even know where to begin when talking about all the excitement and adventure our pups have already found today! After spending their first night in our posh five-star Slumber Bay with brand-new beds, we unleashed them into the gorgeous, ginormous Coconut Grove and Pirates Cove!! The doggies had an absolute blast sniffing out all the fabulous features- the remodeled Pirate Ship, automatic water dishes, brand new agility equipment and wall-mounted beds, roomy eating kennels, TWO huge outdoor potty boxes with blazing red fire hydrants. . .the list goes on and on! The dogs absolutely looooved basking out in the warm spring sun, and several fell asleep while sunbathing! In the afternoon, we unveiled the biggest surprise of them all. . .the Plaza fountains!!! The dogs were flabbergasted at first to see water literally SHOOTING out of the ground, but they soon got the hang of it and were thrilled to dart in and out of the smaller jets. No one was brave enough to tackle the biggest jet- maybe next time?!?! A "paws up" to Loki the Viszla- he was the first to start chomping at the jets! It's truly been a joy to watch our four-legged friends discover all the exciting features of our new facility, and we are looking forward to many more adventures to come! We are so happy to share our excitement and our beautiful new building with YOU, our customers!!
May 15th- Happy Open House Day! We are so excited to let our 2-legged friends come and "play" with us at our new building before the dogs move in. We hope you are able to join us anytime from 12pm until 4pm at Woof Dah! off of Highway 13 and Portland Ave. There will be some snacks and goodies to share, as well as friendly staff faces to answer any questions. Thanks so much for all your support!
May 14th- "Our cousin Vinny", as Onyx calls him, had a huge celebration for his second birthday! Vinny the husky couldn't stop talking about how great his last year was. In beautiful howls and woos, he recited his favorite memories from Woof Dah! He was so busy telling his stories, he nearly forgot to sit for his portrait shot. And cake, who has time for cake when there are so many great things to tell people! After making sure we knew who his best buddies were, we called them in to join Vinny for a wonderful group shot. Onyx and Mia the huskies were ready for a party, as well as Sacha the rottie. A squeak toy called attention, and we snapped a few for memories sake, but we know Vinny will be talking about this day for years to come! Thanks to Vinny's mom who brought some treat bags for the party guests.
May 12th- Who called it the terrible twos? Callie the yellow lab would like to rename it the terrific twos! With a nickname like "Crazy Callie" one can only guess at how "crazy" fun her party was! Jumping and skipping her way to the party room, Callie posed with a twinkle in her eye as she awaited her tasty birthday cake. Before we could blink, the cake was gone and Callie was jumping for more! Party pals were sent in to join our joyful girl for a private wrestle-fest followed by a sweet cuddle-fest. Reagan the doberman, her main wrestling squeeze, and her two cuddle buddies, Tex the pointer and Rosie the golden, all enjoyed a great rough and tumble time before posing for a group shot to commemorate the day. Happy Birthday Callie! Thanks for sharing your days here with us! Also a great big thank you to Callie's family for bringing lots of goodies to share!
May 11th- Happy 'M & M' Day everyone! On this marvelous May day we had a blast celebrating two special birthdays. Misha the Bichon mix and Monroe the Chocolate Lab were thrilled when they found out it was party time. Misha (who is officially 8 years young) invited his pal Mugsy the Boston Terrier, and sisters Minnie Me the Springer Spaniel and Maxi Mae the Cocker Spaniel to his pint-sized celebration. Misha decided he would rather look at his cake than eat it (for real!!!). He whole-heartedly felt it was just too darn cute to mess up. After posing with his cake, Misha was excited to show it off to his friends. The group looked at him in disbelief when they saw he hadn't devoured his treat, but they were all smiles for their photoshoot!
Monroe, on the other hand, was ALLLLLLLLL about the cake. We had to count our fingers after offering it to him and make sure he didn't snatch one of them as well. His eyes lit up wide from the moment he saw his delightful treat until the last morsel was licked from the plate. Once we convinced him he there were no more crumbs to be eaten, Monroe invited his best friend (and brother) Morrison the Pointer, along with Morgan the Golden, and Margot the Chocolate Lab to party the afternoon away. This second crew of 'Ms' posed perfectly for their photos, and ran back to the playgroup with an extra skip in their steps. Thanks for sharing your big days with us boys!
May 10th- Today we were thrilled to host a small dog soiree in honor of Beau the puggle!! Bouncy Beau celebrated his big day with lots of big jumps- we think he might have springs for legs!! Beau was a great sport and we snapped lots of adorable pictures. He exuberantly greeted his cake with lots of big bounces! He gobbled up the peanut butter frosting but wasn't quite sure how to eat the rest of the cake. . .it was as big as his head!! Beau was joined by his small pup palls Ziggy the puggle, Noodles the pug, and Snickers the lhasa-poo. The playful group refused to pose for their group picture without staffer Lisa Marie. . .maybe because they knew she made the yummy birthday cake!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAU! :)
May 9th- We would like to wish a very 'Happy Mother's Day' to all of the mommies out there! Whether your kids have 2 legs or 4, we hope you all get a chance to celebrate this special day! Treat yourself to something special (maybe not a milk bone, as much as your pup insists) today, you deserve it!
We would also like to remind everyone we are one week (that's 7 days/168 hours/10,080 minutes) away from our NEW BUILDING! Are you excited?!? We sure are! We hope to see all of you at our Open House on Saturday before the puppies take over!
May 7th- Happy First Birthday to our sweet little shepherd mix, Jettie! She sure does go full blast, but was a patient darling for her portrait. She smiled for us and curiously waited for her cake. Jettie's red party hat did not stop her from enjoying her treat, even if it obstructed her view of it for a little while! Soon we called in backup to pick up the crumbs! Her neighborhood pals Riglee the beagle and Jackson the golden came to the party! Jettie's new friend Ash the husky also made an appearance, and the quartet wrestled all over the party room! Group picture, what group picture? They all came for the play! Finally we got everybody looking our way to say "Happy Birthday Jettie!" Thanks to Jettie's mom for providing fun little treat bags!
May 6th- We had double the birthday today with brother and sister Jake the Anatolian shepherd and Taela the Great Pyrenees mix, at a party fit for a king AND queen! This very majestic (AKA very big!!) pair were incredibly dignified as they paraded into the party room and wore their birthday hats with great aplomb. We snapped some regal head shots before unveiling their gourmet hamburger and rice birthday cake. Jake and Taela calmly waited for permission (wait. . .kings and queens don't need permission!!) before sampling the peanut butter frosting. Jake declined to eat his share, but Taela was more than happy to oblige by eating the entire cake herself! We then summoned Koda the husky and Frida the German shepherd to join the court. The regal Jake and Taela proudly stood side by side for the group portrait as Koda and Frida waited patiently in the background. It was truly a royal extravaganza to remember!!
May 5th- Today we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with Kota's Uno de Ano. . .aka her first year!! We have been celebrating *tons* of first birthdays and were thrilled to continue the festivities with Kota the black lab's birthday bash! Kota danced her wiggly dance all over the party room and could barely sit still long enough for us to snap some birthday pics! Kota immediately scarfed down the peanut butter frosting on her birthday cake. Her friends Reagan the doberman, Sadie the black lab mix, and BFF Tank the golden retriever BARRELED through the doorway and greeted Kota with a flying tackle!! This exuberant bunch enjoyed their rowdy romp together before sitting oh-so-handsomely for their group picture. . .all except birthday girl Kota, who played so hard that she just HAD to lay down!! Happy Birthday Kota!
May 3rd- We are super excited to wish Rosie the Golden a VERY happy FIRST birthday today! Don't let this dainty little sweetie pie fool you - Rosie has a bit of a tomboy side that she likes to let shine in the playzone. This little girl can more than hold her own with the boys on the play floor. In fact, she has so much fun wrestling and swimming with them, she decided to invite ONLY boys to her party today. Stud muffins Colter the Doberman, Henry the Golden, and Onyx the Husky joined Rosie for a birthday bash like no other. This cute crew put on their very best smiles for the camera, and had a blast in the party room...especially when the squeaky banana came out...woohoo! Oh, and did we mention Rosie likes cake...alot?!? ESPECIALLY peanut butter frosting - yuuummmmmyyyy! Special thanks to Rosie's mom for ALL of the homemade goodies and party favors (of the puppy and people variety) WOWIE we were very impressed!
Over at the new faciltiy, Jill and Jaime were busy helping our computer guy work on installing the EIGHT webcams that we'll have. That ALOT of wires and alot of holes to be drilled! Today was our second webcam installation session. One more session to go and they should be ready for the big day! Outside, the work crew was busy finishing up our 8' high interlocking block fence and working on....mmmmm.... the surprise...... Lanscaping is set to begin tomorrow. Sneaky me, I have neglected to post new photos of all of the things we've been working on over there..... I guess you'll have to come to the open house to see for yourself! The open house has been set for Saturday, May 15th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. The dogs will be "moving in" sometime on Sunday or Monday. We'll post more specific details as we get closer to the big day!
April 29th- Happy Birthday to - no one?!? The month of April has been FILLED to the brim with all sorts of parties and celebrations...it feels a little funny not to be celebrating anyone's special day today. We have, however, had four very special pups bond together on their very first day of daycare today. They've created their own "new kid" party in the playzone - wrestling and swimming and jumping, oh my! Be on the lookout for Sadie the Border Collie mix, Sarge the hound mix, Ember the Shepherd mix, and Remi the Shepherd mix. These playful pups will be begging to come back for more fun soon! (and we all know their moms and dads will be SO surprised to find out how tired their doggies are tonight - sweet dreams!)
April 28th- Niko the golden retriever's birthday was today, and boy was it fantastic!! Niko soooo excited alllll morning long- our staff could tell he *knew* that something was up! We started off with a red birthday hat, but Niko quickly demanded blue instead, so it must be his favorite color! Niko was absolutely adorable as he posed for his birthday picture. He was terribly excited to see his birthday cake, but he is such a good golden pup that he insisted we give him the "release" before he pounced and gobbled it up in 5 seconds flat! Niko was joined by his favorite rough and tumble play pals Reagan the doberman, Jake the anatolian shepherd mix, and Sam the boxer. The group was crazzzy excited to have their own private romp and we could barely get them to pose for a group shot- but when we did get one, it was adorable!!
April 28th- We celebrated a very exciting milestone today- Sacha the Rottweiler's VERY FIRST BIRTHDAY! Sacha is one of our daycare superstars and he has been reminding *everyone* for weeks that his special day was coming!! One glance at his birthday cake and Sacha could not stop licking his lips!! However, he was so incredibly patient as he posed for his bithday photo shoot. When we gave him his birthday cake, Sacha even waited for the "okay" before gobbling up the peanut butter frosting!! Sacha was joined by daycare BFFs Callie the yellow lab, Franklin the black lab, and Zeus the Shepherd mix. They greeted each other excitedly before sitting patiently for their group picture. A special thank-you to Sacha's mom for the amazing doggie gift bags!
April 27th- We would like to wish a VERY Happy Birthday to Maggie the Basset today! This beautiful girl had an absolute blast at her party. She even showed us a fancy trick - she can walk on her tippy toes like a ballerina. When you are vertically challenged, this is a pretty nifty skill - it makes cake snatching soooooooo much easier (right Maggie???)! After she chomped away at her treat she invited her best friend (and sister) Ellie the Basset to help her clean up the crumbs. When there are crumbs to be cleaned, these girls are the ones to call! Once the plate was extra shiny, good pals Calvin the Shepherd mix, and Freddie the Basset came over to play. It's safe to say that 3 Bassets + Calvin sure make for an interesting photo! :) We hope you had a blast today Maggie, thanks for celebrating with us!
April 26th- Once upon a time there was a cake. It was a beautiful cake. It was full of happiness and joy (aka hamburger and rice)...and coated rather generously with peanut butter and milkbone sprinkles. Life was great for this cake - until party time rolled around. This poor cake didn't stand a chance! Our resident (food-loving) diva extraordinaire, Margot the Chocolate Lab, showed that cake who was boss. Margot absolutely demolished above mentioned cake in record time. It could, quite possibly, have been the most INTENSE cake consumption ever witnessed in WoofDah! history. Once she was certain there were absolutely no crumbs left, Margot invited her long-time pals Tex the Pointer, and brother/sister duo Rocco & Butters the Boxers to join her in a photo shoot. This no-nonsense crew sat as still as could be, too mature to even crack a smile... :) Thanks for the laughs today Margot, we sure had a blast helping you celebrate your big day! We wish you many more HAPPY birthdays to come!
We would also like to recognize a lovable duo that spent the last week playing with us - Brisco and Snickers the Springer Spaniels - who we already miss very much! These two brothers are as sweet as can be, and have been coming to Woof Dah! for many years. Despite his sight issues, we would like to report that Snickers had a FABULOUS time during his stay - extra special thanks to little brother Brisco for guiding him from one playroom to the next, showing him the best spots to nap, and reminding him when it was time to E-A-T (the BEST part of both of their days). We were all SO very impressed the way Brisco helped his brother, and how much Snickers enjoyed his vacation here. We can't wait for them to come back and play again!
April 25th- Just shortly after our 7th anniversary of being in business, we were handed the keys to our gorgeous new facility! Although there are still some large projects for the contractors underway outside, Jillian and family will be inside this weekend working on details such as setting up all of the new stuff that has been collecting in the Party Room over the last few months (super fun!) and some painting. We just can't wait to get in there and make it feel like home! Onyx has been supervising this entire project. And, so far it meets his approval. The only thing lacking, he says, is a sushi bar :-) Did someone say fish?
We would also like to mention that we celebrated another FANTASTIC birthday today! Bella the Golden is THREE! This special lady had the time of her life and was all smiles during her photo shoot. She wasn't quite sure what to think when she first saw her cake - but after a few sniffs and licks, there was no turning back. It went a little something like this: sniff, nibble, sniff, nibble, gobble, gobble, gone! That cake didn't stand a chance. After she filled her tummy with goodies, Bella invited her main man, Reagan the Golden, and great pals Gabby the Mini-Aussie, and Tucci Boxer/Rotweiller mix for a romp around the party room. They all had a blast, and ran back to the play group with their heads held high - excited to tell all of their other friends about their fun afternoon. Happy Birthday Bella!
April 24th- Emmie is her name, and speed is her game. We had a blast celebrating this BEAUTIFUL Irish Setter's 2nd Birthday today. Emmie looked absolutely dashing in her red hat as she DASHED around the party room - this little girl sure is F-A-S-T. She picked out her friends (FAST), she ate her cake (FAST), and she posed like a pro during her photo shoot (which we were able to complete, you guessed it, FAST). Time sure flies when you're having fun! Emmie's pals (ahem, boyfriends) Cosmo the Golden, Jackson the Golden, and Shiloh the Weimariner could hardly keep up with her, but they sure tried hard! Thanks for sharing your special day with us Emmie, we hope you had a blast!
April 23th- What a great way to end the week! We had the opportunity to host a lovely birthday party for our handsome pug pal, Noodles. He looked smashing in his green hat, and although it matched his slick green harness it didn't stay on long because he didn't want it to mess up his hair. We snapped a few shots for his model portfolio, then sent the cake his way! Noodles enjoyed a tasty treat, then saved a bit of peanut butter on his whiskers for later. Some of his dashing friends came to help celebrate (both adorable and quick, those little ones!). Buddy the cocker spaniel, Libby the Westie, and Sam the beagle enjoyed a romp with Noodles before the big group shot! Happy Birthday Noodles!
April 21st- "Happy Birthday Freddie!", cried all his four-legged pals! He had such a blast celebrating his 5th birthday with us today! This sweet Shih Tzu was all charm as he sat for his photo shoot. His cake looked tasty, but Freddie decided that he wanted to party with his buddies more than chow down. We sent for the troops and Boomer and Lucy the daschunds, Skooyah the jack russell, and Ben the pekingese mix joined their buddy Freddie. We could hardly get the little guys to sit still for a group picture! A big happy birthday to our littlest guy Freddie!!
The birthday fun wasn't over yet. . .we were thrilled to host a surprise birthday party for handsome Truman the schnauzer!! Our resident gentleman was so dignified as he held court in the birthday room and donned a dapper red hat for his birthday snapshots. His schnauzer friends Teagan and Bentley and cairn terrier Bree were pleased to accept their exclusive party invitations. They joined Truman in the party room and happily admired his adorable hat and birthday cake! Happy Birthday Truman!!
April 20th- We've sure got lots of spring puppies, but Ginger the Golden sure knows how to share the celebration! She decided that celebrating alone was just not as fun, and wouldn't even taste her cake until her Golden brother Logan joined her! Together they enjoyed a sweet treat, and we took a few great sibling shots. Then, the party really started! Chance the Golden, Tucker the Lab, and Keenan the Shepherd mix joined in, as well as Lucy the Golden (to round out all the boys in the party!) The pups sat well for the group shot and had a blast helping Ginger celebrate! Happy Birthday, dear Ginger! A big thank you to Ginger and Logan's mom for bringing some treats to share!
April 19th- We were jumping for joy in the party room today! Smokey the Black Lab turned 4 years old, and this rambunctious pup showed us he can jump AT LEAST 4 feet into the air (especially when there's birthday cake nearby) - WOW! Smokey made sure to invite some of his most energetic pals to join in his fun. Jones the Hound mix, Charlie the Boxer/Beagle mix, and Max the Chocolate Lab were all very pleased to take part in the excitement. This crazy crew suprised us all when they sat down nicely, smiled big, and said cheese (or peanut butter?) for the camera. Who would have guessed? What a great day, thanks for sharing it with us Smokey!
April 18th- A super 'Happy Birthday' wish goes out to Bailey the Chocolate Lab today! He couldn't have been ANY happier when he saw his scrumptious birthday cake (like most labs, Bailey LOVES to eat), until he took a bite out of it, then he was on cloud 9! This well-mannered guy devoured his treat - we didn't even need to sweep afterward, Bailey was so thoughtful, he took care of all the crumbs. Once the cake settled in his tummy, Bailey invited his good buddies Harley the Black Lab, Monroe the Chocolate Lab, & Morrison the Pointer to romp around the party room. These guys had an absolute blast, and couldn't wait to tell all of their friends about the fun they had when they rejoined the group. Well done Mr. Bailey, your party was quite a success! We wish you many more happy years to come!
April 17th- We had double the fun in our party room today when we celebrated bassett siblings Gigg's and Rita's birthday! The doggie duo celebrated in style with matching birthday hats and we snapped some adorable headshots! They shared their yummy, jumbo birthday cake (they looooved the peanut butter frosting) and were joined by their puppy pals Dolly the basset and Dexter the cocker spaniel/basset mix. The basset buddies were so excited for their birthday romp that we could barely get them to sit still for a group shot! Happy Birthday Giggs and Rita!!
April 16th- We had the pleasure of getting to celebrate two birthdays, Dooney the Bichon, and Bogey the Weimaraner. Both birthday boys were full of wiggles of excitement and could barely contain themselves when the cake came out. Dooney much rather would have preferred to show off his cool new rock-star mowhalk hair do than wear a birthday hat! Once the cake was demolished and devoured, his pals Daisy Mae the puggle and Mugsy the Boston, and Jillian came to join in on the birthday fun. Happy Birthday Dooney! Our other birthday boy also didn't waste any time getting to his cake. He had perfect sitting manners so we could move on to cake time. He celebrated his big day with his buddies Maxx the black lab, Willy the Labradoodle and Bennett the lab mix. Happy birthday Bogey!
April 15th- Today we celebrated Orlie the black labradoodle's birthday! This gorgeous girl must have had a past career as a model, because she was oh-so-poised as she sat for her birthday headshot! Orlie delicately munched on her birthday cake that was topped with her favorite treat- peanut butter frosting!! Orlie was joined by her BFFs Norton the shepherd mix and Molly the chocolate lab, and new friend Mogli the pointer mix also joined in on the fun! The group happily romped in the party room before agreeing to patiently pose for a group picture. Happy Birthday to Orlie- our labradoodle sweeheart with a smile to match!!
April 14th- We had quite a special birthday today! Reagan the Doberman celebrated his first year of life with all his buddies at Woof Dah! He is so well behaved, it's hard to believe he is only one year old. The sunshine smiling up at Reagan was just the icing on the cake (literally)! He licked it all up and got some on his nose to save for later. Reagan's good pals Lucy, Tank, and Casey the Goldens and his number one dobie pal, Colter, joined the fun for a fantastic group shot. Thanks to Reagan's mom for wonderful party favors! They just grow up so fast...*sniffle*
Speaking of sniffling, if any of you were at daycare today, you probably noticed that Jill wasn't exactly feeling well. In fact, she sounded alot like Wacky Zachy's mom who went to 2 (yes 2) Bon Jovi concerts! So, during her break, Jill decided to test out some of the doggie mattresses we have ready and waiting to be moved into the new faciltiy. Indeed, they are VERY comfortable! I think they might need some more testing, don't you?
April 13th- A bit of a sad day for all of us as Mia, an adorable Golden puppy, will be coming for her last day of daycare before she moves back home to Chicago. It was so much fun watching little Mia grow up along with her pal Rosie the Golden who is about the same age. The coolest thing is though, that Mia's mom works with the dolphins at the zoo and was temporarily in MN with some of the dolphins from the Chicago Zoo. Cool Huh? We wish Mia and her family the very best!!!
On a much happier note, Gorman the Black Lab mix celebrated his 4th birthday with us today! Being the mature lad that he is, he decided to invite some of his wise "big brothers" from daycare to celebrate with him. Jack the Golden, Gordy the Yellow Lab, and Calvin the Shepherd mix all helped Gorman enjoy his special day. This handsome group sat tall and proud for their photos, and Gorman was so happy he gave us a BIG hug on the way out. Special thanks to Gorman's mom for the party favors, AND treats for all of the dogs in daycare today!!!
April 12th- Did somebody say SWIM TIME?!? At exactly 8:59am this morning, Toby the Golden Doodle made sure to remind us that it was absolutely, positively time to for the pool to open. Once he got the ok, Toby gathered up the troops and led all of his (water loving) four-legged friends into the pool. He was joined by his small (but mighty) pal DaVinci the Terrier mix. Don't let this little guy fool you, he could challenge Michael Phelps to a race across the pool - WOW he's fast! Our two new kids, Gus the Lab mix & Casey the Golden had the time of their lives exploring the swim area as well. Water? Inside? With toys? AMAZING! (It's all about the simple things in life.) Wait until they all see the NEW pool at our NEW building - all of the pups sure are in for a TREAT!
April 11th- Sound the alarms - we've got NEWS for you! Sugar the Boxer mix, our resident ball of energy, took a N-A-P today! During the DAY. At NAP TIME. If you know Sugar, you know this is one for the record books! It looks like a weekend of running around and non-stop playtime has finally caught up with her. In fact, it's been a pretty lazy day around here for a majority of the dogs. We're giving credit to all of the playful pups this weekend for tiring the group out. Job well done! We hope all of you had a nice, restful Sunday as well!
April 10th- Happy Birthday to Paulie the black lab! This super sweet girl had a blast today, and felt like a star when she realized it was HER special day. She batted her big brown eyes in disbelief when she realized the yummy cake was ALL hers. After a few delicate licks, she dove right in and enjoyed her scrumptious treat. Paulie was excited to share her party time with good pals Crumpet the Black Lab mix, Izzy the Black Lab mix, and Abby Rose the Shepherd mix - these girls sure knew how to party hard! Paulie is especially looking forward to partying late into the night with ALL of her friends at the sleepover tonight, it should be a dog-gone good time!
April 7th- Happy Birthday to Siri! We've got a lot of spring pups, but Siri tops the charts as the spring-iest! In years past, photo shoots have been in motion, but this year we were able to talk the diva into letting us snap some beautiful portraits! She sure did enjoy her cake and we did capture her tongue in motion! Siri's gal pals joined in the fun for a group shot later on. Weezie the Cockapoo, Skooyah the Jack Russell, and Snickers the Lhasa-poo smiled pretty for the camera so Siri can remember this year forever! Thanks to Siri's mom for the wonderful party favors (for two and four-legged friends!)
April 6th- Today was a spectacular day to remember! Minx the whippet celebrated her first birthday with us and it sure was a blast! With her fine features, the party hat flopped all around as she excitedly jumped in joy for her cake. Delicately, she nibbled at the special treat as she waited for her party guests to arrive. Her brother Cooper roared in ready for action! After a sibling photo shoot, Minx's other play pals joined the fun! Murphy the shepherd/beagle mix and Willis the brittany spaniel were glad to help celebrate and posed so nice for a group shot! Cooper was off like a bolt and decided his sibling picture was plenty. Minx has many memories to keep from this special day! Happy birthday!
An update from the job site: Our new signs are up and lighted! Jill and Jaime just had to take a peek at them on their way to work this morning before it got light out and boy are they bright! We are SO happy that we FINALLY have our own sign! At lunchtime, Jill was back at the site to locate the outdoor mmmm..... secret. The whole building was buzzing as workers were busy painting and installing purple kitchen cabinets, countertops and doggie food storage shelving along with our new, supersized front desk and coffee bar (don't worry, not purple). Tile installers are sheduled to begin work on Thursday which should be exciting as well. (They don't make purple tile, darn it...) On the side, Jill and Jaime have been very busy ordering the necessities and replacement items that will soon be needed. We have a big stack of cool stuff just waiting to go! We also have a few fun, crafty type projects going on in the hay barn at home. We think you'll like 'em!
April 5th- We had a fabulous birthday party here at Woof Dah! today - it was Miss London's big day, and we celebrated princess style! London the English Setter invited her fellow Setter look-alike Wrigley, Lab mix Illy, and Australian Shepherd mix Casey to her super posh celebration. These classy ladies were all manners throughout the party and their photo shoot. The sophisticated bunch sat up straight, looked right at the camera and said "cheese" in their own special lady-like ways. It was a GREAT time all around. P.S. London LOVED her princess hat with feathers - ALMOST as much as her cake. Is that possible? Happy Birthday London!
April 4th- "Here comes Peter cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail, hippity-hoppity..." EASTER'S HERE! And so are a bunch of GREAT bunny chasers. Peter the rabbit avoided WoofDah! today for that very reason, but we all had a blast here without him. Who needs chocolate and eggs when there are TONS of balls and bones to find? We hope you all enjoyed your day! HAPPY EASTER!!!
April 3rd- Jill and Onyx had an exciting morning. Onyx found his 3rd skunk in just over a year while doing his morning "business" outside. Luckily we have a pre-stocked "skunk" kit full of peroxide, baking soda and dish soap, just in case. Onyx got a very thorough bath on the patio at 5:30am this morning. I think he would have preferred the skunk smell over the bath. He hates getting wet!!! We keep telling him that chasing bunnies and squirrels is a good hobby and that chasing skunks is not such a good hobby. Apparently we have failed to convince him! Have a great Easter everyone!
April 2nd- A big day yesterday at the new facility! Our brand new purple signs are up! They will be lit up soon! Also, we're also very happy that Lisa is back from her trip to not-so-sunny Florida. Bummer. Lisa doesn't take much time off and we sure do miss her when she's gone. Welcome back!
April 1st- Today we're sending out a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Henry the golden! We're pretty sure he had the worst day ever - APRIL FOOLS! He couldn't have been more excited for his special day. We were VERY impressed with Henry's manners during cake time. He sat and waited patiently for the ok to eat, and then proceeded to delicately lick up all of the peanut butter and sprinkles he could handle. After filling up on goodies Henry invited his buddies Ike & Abby the goldens, as well as Arlo the "little brown dog" to his wrestling match, errrr, party. They all had a blast (and birthday boy was the wrestling champion) so life for Henry couldn't get much better. Thanks for spending your big day with us Henry - we wish you many more wonderful birthdays to come!
March 28th- This morning we had a great surprise! Skooyah showed up for daycare after being a "snowbird" hiding out in Arizona all winter long. It was so fun to see her again! Her dad said that she remembered exactly where she was going on her way here! We look forward to having a fun summer with Skooyah!
Also, a big birthday wish goes out to Molly a Basset/Beagle Mix! Molly can be described by many words, but Princess is the word that best fits her. Molly loves to come to daycare and rest on HER bed (the one by the TV!). She also LOVES to get baths and cuts to the front of the line every time she's here so that she gets HER bath first. (A princess should never have to wait!) Molly enjoyed all the attention she got at her party and also enjoyed the frosting and sprinkles on her cake! Her only complaint is that we didn't have a throne built for her. Hmmmm.... maybe next year. Happy Birthday Molly!
March 26th- Today was a big day for a lovely Black Lab. Coal turns 7 years old today! We can't believe he has been coming to play with us for so long! Coal somehow remembered just what you have to do at birthday parties to get the cake - sit! We could hardly get him over the the birthday sign since he was so intent on "sitting for the cake." Coal wore his birthday hat like a pro! (He's had a few years of practice) and knew just what to do with his cake....lick off the frosting first. That's the very best part, of course. Coal invited some fun friends to celebrate including Smokey, Skippy, Bailey and Zeus. We wish you many more happy birthdays!
March 25th- Today we have a good cat story for you. Sadie the Doberman mix has a kitty sibling whose name is Evinrude. Evinrude? "Where in the world would a kitty cat get a name like that," we asked Sadie's mom? She said his name is Evinrude because he has such a loud motor "purr." We thought that was a great story!
On another note, our new facility is getting it's floors done this week. They look great! Jill got to go over to the jobsite to fine-tune the flooring sprinkles this morning which was really fun! We have also posted a few more pics on our home page for you to enjoy.
March 24th- Of all the youngsters we have here, Zeus stands out! It's hard to believe he is just a year old, but watching him play with his buddies, you can sure see his floppy puppy shine bright! He was so well-behaved for his portrait with his green hat and smiling face! Zeus licked his birthday cake right off the plate and didn't even leave evidence for his four-legged pals to find. Macy and Bob the Boxers joined the party as well as Zeus's good pal Sacha the Rottweiler. It was an energetic crew for the group shot and Zeus will remember his first year well!
March 23rd- It was a Boston Birthday today- Boston Terrier, that is! We were thrilled to celebrate with Mugsy the Boston as he turned another year young! Mugsy eagerly joined us in the party room and happily donned his red birthday hat. The birthday boy was oh-so-patient as we snapped photo after photo of him in front of his birthday sign. He politely sniffed and sampled his birthday cake, showing us his amazing puppy table manners!! Mugsy was then joined by his friends Tweak, Lucky, Mischa, and Tuxedo for a birthday romp. The puppy crew knew exactly what do for the group picture- they lined up by the sign and eagerly posed for our camera. Thank you to Mugsy's mom for the wonderful party favors! Happy Birthday Mugsy!!
March 20th- A BIG Happy Birthday goes out to BIG Arthur! Arthur the Newfoundland holds the title of "Largest Dog at Woof Dah!" and got to celebrate his Birthday here with us today. He brought his Newfoundland sister, Ursa, with to share in the festivities and invited friends Sully and Louise, whom he knows from home and just happen to be staying with us this weekend! Arthur showed such powerful restraint as he waited until we gave the "ok" for him to eat his cake with one giant bite! Then he laid down to make sure every last crumb was licked up before his friends joined him for the group shot. Arthur insisted on sitting at the end of the line of friends instead of being front and center, and we sure weren't going to argue with him (much less try to move him)! We all hope you had a great Birthday, Arthur!
On another exciting note, we are happy to report that our new facility is really taking shape! The painting has been nearly finished- and, yes, there is at least one purple wall :-) Light fixtures have also been installed and the flooring is going in next week! (We have a really cool floor feature planned. But you'll have to wait to see it.... it's a secret) It has been a blast watching all of the elements finally come together. We are hoping for more warm weather to enable the crew to start work on our outdoor dog "Plaza," sidewalks and customer parking areas.
March 19th- Today, we were privileged to celebrate Mojave's birthday! This lucky malamute mix has really blossomed with a beautiful smile and full coat that says "Pet Me". Mo, as she is known, devoured her cake straight from the center and ate it as though it were her last meal. Her sister, Mini the golden, joined her for a cute family portrait before the party animals were invited in. Mo's golden friends, Wrigley and Sonoma, were glad to help celebrate! They all were too busy socializing to worry about a picture, but after some enticing, they sat wonderfully for a group shot! Many more Happy Birthdays to you, Mo!
March 17th- What a day to be born! We were very excited to be able to celebrate TWO special birthdays here today! Darla kicked off party time with an exclusive black-tie (errr, black lab) event. She chose to invite fellow look-a-likes, and close friends, Kota, Skippy, & Holiday to her party play time. After a few minutes of crazy exploration, this group was all business for their photo shoot. They sat tall and proud - cracking a few smiles on their serious faces every once in a while. What a funny sight! We're pretty sure the highlight of Darla's day was her cake. She waited so patiently, and devoured it instantly. Yummmy! Thanks for celebrating with us Darla!
Our second party animal, Roxy (also a black lab), decided to branch out and invite her chocolate lab pals Cassie, and Molly Brown, and her boyfriend of the day, Sacha the rottweiller. These pups partied like the best of them! Sacha even tried to eat Roxy's hat - since she didn't leave ANY crumbs from her birthday cake, Sacha chose the next best option. Speaking of cake, we were so impressed with Roxy's cake eating skills - you would think she practices all the time. Hint: pushing the cake off the plate and all over the floor like a hockey puck is WAY more fun than just eating it normally. It tastes WAY better that way! Pass it along. We hope you had a blast today Roxy!
March 15th- Happy Birthday to Bode the Cairn Terrier! Bode was SO excited for his party, he could hardly contain himself! Every chance he got, he gave us millions of kisses and little nibbles on our fingers! Even though he tolerated his Birthday hat, we chose to take it off so we could see his adorable big ears perked up when he smiled! His friends Mac, Joey, and Lucy joined him for the group picture, which had to be snapped quickly, because these little ones are always on the move! We know you'll sleep good after such an exciting day! Happy Birthday Bode!
March 14th- Happy Birthday to Darla the Black Lab! We don't think we've ever seen a dog more excited for her party than Darla! She was in constant motion! Her Birthday cake and a squeaky toy weren't even enough to persuade her to sit still for even a second! It wasn't until we brought out a ball that we got her undivided attention! She sat pretty for her pictures, surrounded by her joy in life: balls! And of course we had to give in and toss a few around for her. After all, it IS her Birthday so it was the least we could do! Happy Birthday Darla! And a BIG thanks goes out to Darla's parents, who brought party favors for every dog here!!
March 12th-Today we had double the fun celebrating two Birthdays! Sugar, the white Boxer mix celebrated with best friends Chimo and Oakley, the Husky mixes and Colter the Doberman. Being the social butterfly that she is, it was a difficult choice only choosing a few friends to join into the festivities! Though she is a "wild child" in the playroom, she displayed her perfect puppy manners when the cake arrived. She very delicately removed the peanut butter frosting before eating any of the cake. Thanks for letting us share the big day with you and for all of the peanut butter kisses!
Garland, the Irish Setter also celebrated his Birthday with us today. He turned 6 today, yet doesn't act a day over 2! He could barely contain his excitement long enough to pose for pictures! He was all smiles and wagging tails and even shared a Birthday kiss with Sam, the Boxer puppy. He was also joined by his friends Wrigley the Setter and Flash the Gordon Setter/Black Lab mix! Happy Birthday Garland!
March 9th- Happy Birthday to Bam the Golden Retriever ver! Bam celebrated her 3rd Birthday with fellow Goldens Lucy, Rosie, and Libby. She was VERY excited for her party and was such a good girl as she politely waited for permission to eat her cake. Once we gave the "ok" it was a race to see how fast she could get it down her throat! And she made sure she left no crumbs for her friends! She sat perfectly still for her portrait but seemed to think it was a mugshot because she refused to smile until her friends joined her! We're so glad we got to share this fun-filled day with her!
March 6th- Mindy the Collie celebrated her 14th Birthday with us today! This beautiful girl has been coming here for years and we're so happy to be part of another party with her! This independent, laid-back girl trotted around the Party Room and wouldn't sit still for a second! She was very happy when her friends Tonka, Paji Bear, & Izzy joined her for the group picture! They spent quite a while exploring the room and playing before we were able to get them to sit still long enough to take the picture! Mindy's mom brought all-natural, handmade doggy treats to share with all of her friends, that smelled good enough for people to eat! That was so generous! We're so glad we've had the opportunity to share so many wonderful years with you and are looking forward to many more!
March 4th- A big Happy Birthday wish goes out to Brit, our once very shy, but adorable, Spaniel Mix. Brit has made an incredible amount of progress with his social skills at daycare and now has lots of friends and and much more self-confidence. He chose to invite his new pals Rosie, Hudson and Murphy to his party. Brit is so loving and sweet-he even ate his birthday cake while sitting in Jill's lap! We wish Brit many more birthdays and many more new doggie friendships to come!
March 3rd- Happy Birthday to Jetson the adorable, bright white Yellow Lab! Jet turned 3 years old but still looks like a rolly-polly puppy with the cutest droopy face and softest fur! He celebrated with his Black Lab brother Ike and buddies Tex the Pointer and Wrigley the Setter. All dogs sat as still as statues for their group picture and it took every last bit of self-restraint for Jet to pose for his pictures with the cake just inches away from his face! And you better believe that cake was gone in two bites! Thank you to Jetson's parents who brought party favors in cute little boxes for Jet's friends!
March 1st- Love story of the day: Ted, a handsome pug, has found his one true love. Ruby, a petite, slender pug caught his eye today and Ted has been hooked ever since. All afternoon she's played hard-to-get; running on top of the couches, agility ramp, and agility tables, occasionally looking over her shoulder to give him a quick kiss and then running away again. Just a moment ago, we caught him gazing at her from on top of the couch as she sat on an agility table. Neither dog had been here in a while so it was fate that brought them together. Unfortunately, they were only here for the day so who knows when their paths will cross again...but I'm sure they'll be in each other's dreams tonight as they sleep soundly from such a long, fun day together.
March 1st- A giant Happy Birthday wish goes out to Miss Mela the Lab mix! This sweet girl checked her manners at the door when she DEVOURED her birthday cake...she might have actually eaten the plate if we let her. Crumbs? What crumbs? Mela made sure to gobble up every last bite! After convincing her that she did in fact eat ALL of her cake, Mela invited her friends Stanley the Golden, Indy the Hound mix, and Zoe the Rhodesian Ridgeback to party and pose for pictures. Four smiling faces, and wagging doggy tails later, the party was an absolute success! Special thanks to Mela's mom for the party favors - Stanley, Indy, and Zoe can't WAIT to play fetch with their new balls!
February 27th- Happy 10th Birthday to Tonka the white boxer! Tonka has been sharing his wiggles and kisses with everyone at Woof Dah! for many many years! His tongue is always in constant motion, trying to give kisses! He had a blast at his party and LOVED his cake! His friends included Dakota and Sam the boxers and Boston the boston terrier mix, but Tonka loves everyone and everything so choosing what friends to invite was a difficult decision! A big thanks goes out to Tonka's mom, who brought a huge box of dog bones to supply our lobby treat dish and chocolate cake for Tonka's human friends!
February 26th- Happy Birthday to Annie the Golden Retriever! Annie turns 7 years old and has been coming here most of her life! She's celebrated so many Birthdays with us, the parties are almost routine to her and we snapped a cute picture of her yawning! She enjoyed every last bite of her cake before her friends Wrigley the Golden Retriever, Morgan the Golden Retriever, and Buddy the Aussie joined her for their adorable group photo. Thank you to Annie's parents who brought generous gift bags to share with Annie's friends!
February 25th- Happy Birthday to Ein the Corgi! Ein holds the title of one of the most laid-back corgi's who come here, so needless to say he posed perfectly for his pictures and delicately nibbled at his cake until every last crumb was gone. Friends Molly the Shih Tzu/Schnauzer, and Molly & Izzy the Mini Schnauzers were very excited to be invited to the party and we had to settle for an action shot for the group pic! Hope you had a great day, Ein!
February 24th- Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday DEAR GLENNIE, Happy Birthday to you! This special girl has had quite a day. She got to eat cake (LOTS of cake, she licked the plate clean), model her patented "Glennie pose" in a photo shoot, and party the afternoon away with buddies Rosie the golden, Annie the springer, and her handsome boyfriend Onyx the husky (he's sooooooo dreamy!). It was quite a memorable day! Thanks for celebrating with us Glennie!
February 22nd- Happy Birthday to Charlie the golden retriever! Charlie celebrated his 3rd Birthday with us with a big smile on his face the entire time! He was gorgeous for his pictures and got nice and comfortable to eat his cake by taking off his hat and laying down! He posed perfectly for his group shot with friends Garland, Buckshot, and Toby. A big thanks goes out to Charlie's mom who made very generous party favors for his friends! We're so glad you got to party again with us this year!
February 20th- Happy Birthday to Chewy the gigantic yellow lab! Chewy turned 7 years old but still acts like a little puppy whenever there's petting or food involved! He'll practically knock you down with one swipe of his big, always wagging, tail! He smiled pretty for his pictures before trying to swallow his cake with one BIG bite! His friends Louise, Chelsea, and Mick also posed nicely for their group shot. We're so glad you still get to spend your vacations with us even though you live quite far away now! Happy Birthday!
February 19th- The lighted signs for our new facility are now in the works. We have awesome purple swirly lettering planned. We also have a neat lighted paw and address numbers planned for the entrance area. This should make us ALOT easier to find for our new clients as well as for people sending friends or family to drop-off or pick-up puppies!
February 17th- Max the yellow lab enjoyed his 8th birthday with us today! It was a party for the young at heart and all Max's pals were very excited to be a part of the big day. The cake didn't last long, as Max opened wide for a picture perfect smile and slid the cake right in! His four-legged friends Hershey, Casey, and Zach were there to help him pick up the crumbs and sit nice for a lovely group shot. Happy Birthday Max!
February 16th- Happy Birthday to Louie the black lab! Louie has been visiting us for most of his life and we've watched him mature through the years into a handsome gentleman. Louie always asks politely to play ball by looking up toward where we keep the "chuck-it" and then back at us, over and over until we give in. He celebrated his Birthday with friends Morrison, Gordy, and Aspen, who all sat perfectly for their group picture. And Louie was SO patient as he waited for his cake but as soon as we gave the "ok" it was gone in exactly one big bite! We hope you have a great day, Louie!
We also have some exciting news about our new facility. Our purple siding is being put up today on the front of the building (yes, I did say PURPLE!!!) and it looks awesome! I have to say that I think this is the first time I drove up and thought wow! This finally looks like OUR building! Behind the scenes, we are getting paint colors picked out, choosing tile, countertops & other finishes. It has been a fun, but stressful time for Jill and everyone involved in the project as we want to be sure to get everything just perfect!
February 15th- Happy Birthday to Lucy the yellow lab. This SUPER EXCITED girl was pumped to share her special day with her best friends Dakota and Gabby the boxers and Mela the black lab mix. These playful girls had a blast at the party, and posed perfectly for their group shot - a one snap wonder! Thanks for celebrating your big day with us Lucy! We wish you many more years of fun to come!
February 14th- Happy Valentines Day to everyone. Today was a fun day for our staff as Yazmin is back to work after being off for a little over a year to have her 3rd child. The dogs and the staff had a great time. Amazingly, Yazmin remembered most of the dogs (even their names!) that attended Woof Dah! before her hiatus! Wow! We look forward to working with her part-time starting on Mondays.
Onyx is feeling better and will hopefully be able to go to "work" on Monday as well. He has been "off" since Wednesday and he just can't wait to hop in the car to head back to work. We are all hopeful that his leg will hold up to some much needed playtime!
February 11th- Today was a very special day for a very special dog! Eeyore celebrated his birthday here today with all his pals! He's pretty much the coolest kid in town, so he had a huge group of friends to join the party. Two-legged pal, Jeff, was his number one pick! Eeyore also invited his four-legged pals Lucky, Tweak, Jordy, Bella, & Lulu. Happy Birthday Eeyore!
February 10th- Our mascot dog, Onyx had a rough couple of days. Last night, he slipped and hurt his leg while jumping up the front porch step. He couldn't walk on his back leg at all. He was really scared (and so was his mom). Fortunately, everything checked out OK with Dr. Hanson at Eagan Pet Clinic this morning. Looks like he strained some muscles and bruised some bones in his upper rear leg. With some good pain medications and anti-inflammatories, he is feeling better and starting to put some weight back on his foot. The ladies at the clinic said that Huskies are pretty wimpy when it comes to pain (mom was thinking the same thing). Onyx hopes to be back and ready to play soon and he hopes that the porch steps won't "bite " him again :-)
February 9th- Happy Birthday Norton! Norton celebrated with best friend Orlie and buddies Sam and Sundae. While he wasn't a big fan of his hat, the cake proved to be a nice distraction and was devoured in about 1.5 seconds! He left absolutely no crumbs for his friends who all sat very pretty for their group picture. Last, but not least, Norton was a good sport as he sat for a special-request pic that involved a hat on both sides of his head! What a good boy!
February 8th- "Little Sam," an adorable Boxer puppy that's a regular here at Woof Dah! got her toenails painted hot pink today just in time for Valentines Day. Look out boys!
February 7th - We'd like to send some best wishes out to the familiy of Hunter and Zip who are visiting us this weekend. Their house burned recently and they needed some fun and pampering time. Our staff is sending them home with some spiffy new daycare collars and some toys to start a new collection for these two cuties!
January 29th- We'd like to wish Jayla the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel a very Happy Birthday! The pretty little girl celebrated with her sister Sadie, and friends Tucker, Bailey, and Teddy. Sadie got the privalege of sharing her sister's cake, although she had a bit of trouble not eating Jayla's long ear fur along with it! And the well-mannered group of 5 posed perfectly for their group picture!
January 28th- Happy Birthday to Myles the Husky! Myles had a blast playing with Vinny and Mia the Huskies and Cooper the Golden Retriever! In fact, anyone who knows Huskies knows what a challenge it was to get them all to stand still long enough to pose for their picture!! Myles told us the whole time how much fun he was having, and I'm sure mom will hear all about it when it comes time to go home!
January 27th- Colter the Doberman celebrated his first birthday with us today! His dobie buddies Jasmine and Reagan joined him, along with their golden pal, Bodie. These guys are full of energy but the obedience classes paid off and they all sat wonderfully for the birthday photo! Thanks to Colter's mom for bringing some party favors!
Onyx, our mascot, also had a really fun afternoon today. He was riding with uncle Chase to "work" when a delicious Subway sandwich appeared, unwrapped, in the middle console of the car. Not wanting to disturb the driver of the car, he slowly pulled the delicious sandwich into the back seat. When the driver reached for his sandwich, he found that it was missing. Wondering where the sandwich went, he looked in the rearview mirror to see Onyx holding the very yummy treasure in his mouth with pride. Onyx ended up getting to eat the part that got slobbered on and was very pleased with his find.
January 26th- Happy Birthday to Abbey the mini poodle! Abbey celebrated with fellow poodles of various sizes: Fia and Leo the standard poodles and little Dante the standard poodle puppy. Dante and Abbey started playing immediately when we brought them into the Party Room and after a couple nibbles on Abbey's hat he, along with the other guests, sat perfectly still for their group picture. A big thank you goes out to Abbey's mom who brought yummy treats for her puppy and human friends!
January 20th- What a day to be born! Cooper the golden celebrated his birthday with us today. His "cousin" Roxy was his number one guest. Pals Wrigley and Wrigley were excited to join too! Cooper looked dashing in green, but he thought that meant "take the green hat and run!" A fun time was had by all!
Also celebrating her birthday today was Dakotah! She is the cutest puggle around, and she sat very well for her photo shoot. She must have had lots of practice with cameras, being so cute and all! Eleanor the bug, Mikey the boston terrier, and Sam the beagle all made sure to wish Dakotah the best on her special day. Happy Birthday guys!
January 17th- Today we celebrated Lucy's Birthday! It was one of the most energetic parties we've ever had! Lucy helped us decide to ditch her Birthday hat because sitting still was enough of a distraction without that hat getting in the way! Lucy and friends Pali, Roxy, and Buddy immediately spotted the squeaky toy that was nearby, which we quickly discovered was enough motivation for them to sit pretty for the picture! And when it came time for the cake, we barely had a second to snap a picture before it was gone!
January 15th- Bromley was so excited to celebrate his Birthday with us he could hardly sit down! A big, wide grin and a crazy tail told us "Thanks for the cake!". Good pals Max, Daisy, and Bart were glad to join the fun. The party was so full of energy that the party hats just couldn't keep up! Happy Birthday Bromley! We're glad you were born!
January 13th- Today was Kenyon's birthday! Kenyon is an adorable Cavachon (Bichon/Cavalier Mix) who celebrated with Sasha, a very girly Bichon, Carter, a cute Golden puppy and Lucy, another Cavachon. He loved the cake and the company! We wish Kenyon many more happy and healthy birthdays to come!
January 6th- Today, Kota's good friend Tank came in for his first day of daycare, and boy, is he a hit! He and Kota are best of friends and found each other right away. She was really eager to show him around and introduce him to all her friends! Of course, everyone was extremely welcoming and excited to have a new kid to play with.
Also, if you have not yet heard, the Land O'Lakes dog show is in St. Paul this weekend at the River Center. Our very own daycare star, Chance, may have the opportunity to join the Retrieve A Golden Of Minnesota (RAGOM) booth on Friday. Way to go Chance!
January 3rd- Today we celebrated Lucy's special day! The little princess put aside her rough and tumble play attitude to pose so perfectly for her pictures. She also used her best manners to carefully lick the peanut butter frosting from her special homemade cake! She was joined by her little furry friends Brody the Jack Russel, Milo the terrier mix, and Cormac the Cockapoo! Happy Birthday Lucy!
December 30th- Wow! Can we say thank you? This holiday season we were surprised with so many lovely holiday treats including homemade cookies, chocolates, and popcorn. Thanks for thinking of us! Also, thanks to Margot's mom for gifting us two new movies for movie time. We now have "Snow Buddies" and "The Dog Who Saved Christmas" to add to the movie list!
December 23rd- Happy Birthday to Sasha the Bichon! Sacha turned one year old today and she posed perfectly for her portrait! Even adult dogs don't usually sit still for their pictures due to all the excitement but Sasha posed like a princess. After she delicately nibbled at her cake, her Bichon and Bichon mix friends Cocoa, Bijou, and Lucky joined her for the group shot and looked adorable!
December 21st- Happy Birthday Tex! Tex is so popular here, he has two sets of friends: those he runs with and those he sleeps with! Tex is a cuddler and we couldn't resist getting a picture of him with his cuddle buddies Callie, Ziggy, and Jetson. Every day at nap-time you'll see him sleeping contently, curled up to these friends! Of course we also got a picture of him with the friends who he plays chase with: Auzzie, Morrison, and brand new girlfriend Abby Rose. And Tex had no problem getting the cake down in about 3 big bites!
December 17th- Happy Birthday to Kyzer the German Shepherd! Kyzer celebrated his Birthday with his little sister Tia, old-time buddy Harley, and new friend Casey. It's hard to believe Kyzer is 5 years old now! He started coming here when he was an energetic puppy and now he plays the role of the mature older brother! We're glad to have shared so many years with you and look forward to many more!
December 16th- We'd like to wish Gus a super duper Happy Birthday today! He celebrated with fellow Tibetan Terrier brother, Blue, as well as super loveable pals Freddie and Hudson! Gus has been coming to daycare for many years now. You might remember him as the one with the really cute pink nose! His nose has turned mostly black now, but Gus is still super, super cute! (And a big fan of peanut butter frosting with sprinkles!)
December 15th- Bodie was so excited to celebrate his birthday here today! His red collar matched his red hat well as he posed ready for his special treat. All Bodie wanted for his birthday was a belly rub, but he decided cake was a good idea too! It didn't take long for it to disappear, and in its place were his friends Gordy, Bam, and Mela. Together they made his party a picture perfect time!
We would also like to congratulate Mini on her new sister, Mojave. Mini's mom has done ALOT of wonderful volunteer and fostering work for a very long time. But of all the fosters, Mojave stole her heart and now has a wonderful "forever home." with Mini. Mojave is a unique grey and black husky mix and her coat is already starting to shine under Mini's mom's loving care! Congratulations to all!
December 12th- We were so happy this morning to get to meet Leonardo's new baby brother, Dante for the first time. He's a 12 and a half week old white Standard Poodle and recently arrived from California. Much to his dismay, Minnesota is COLD and SNOWY! He now has an adorable jacket and booties to help him adjust to the weather.
December 10th- We all want to wish Champ a very Happy Birthday! Champ picked out who he wanted to invite to his party immediately when he got here today! He wouldn't leave Gorman alone, even for a second (which Gorman SURE didn't mind!) and Murphy successfully joined the group after bugging Champ for a little bit to let him join in the fun! Then the three of them played for a while on the beds in the Slumber Zone before Bodie joined in on the action! All four (especially Champ) should be exhausted after such a fun Birthday! And thank you to Champ's mom who brought some yummy treats to share with everyone!
December 8th- Happy Birthday Jaxson! This energetic black lab mix enjoyed every last bite of his cake before his friends Callie the Yellow Lab, Sacha the Rottweiler puppy, and Sam the Boxer puppy joined him for the group picture. And getting that group to sit still for even 2 seconds was quite the task! As soon as we got a decent shot, they dashed full-speed back to the playgroup to try to get rid of a little more of their endless energy!
December 6th- We have updated Onyx's Celebrity Interview page to include a photo collage. It's pretty cute!
December 5th- We are excited to announce that we have added an online store to our website. You can purchase daycare, boarding and even gift certificates online, when it's convenient for you! (You could even mention the online store to Santa Claus this year!) It was a fun and challenging adventure for Jillian to get this set up-if you have any comments or suggestions, we'd love to hear from you!
December 4th- A great idea from Lucy the Daschshund's mom on this snowy morning....Since Dachshunds were bred to chase badgers and designed for going into their tunnels, Lucy's parents snow blow a maze for her in the winter to run around in in the back yard. She loves it! What a cool idea!
December 2nd- Today we celebrated our pal Chimo's 4th birthday. This handsome husky partied the day away with his sister Oakley, as well as friends Sugar and Kota. After inhaling almost every last bit of his birthday cake Chimo called in his buds for backup, and they eagerly helped him finish off the crumbs. The group could hardly contain their excitement while posing for a few birthday photos. They decided to be unique and go for an unconventional pose - we all know that "sit" and "stay" can be kinda' tricky words to understand when it's party time! Needless to say, it was a blast! Happy Birthday Chimo!
December 1st- If you've noticed some new faces around here, you're right! We have some awesome new staff members including a future Veterinarian (Alee), a future Doctor (Lisa Marie), as well as Erin who has a degree in Kinesiology and Kallie who attends Lakeville High School. November 13th-Lucy P, one of the newest Golden Retrievers to the Woof Dah! family celebrated her birthday with us today! She invited boyfriend Onxy to the party, along with fellow goldens Madison and Cosmo. She was so tired from playing hard all morning that she almost fell asleep during her photo shoot! She sure perked up, however, when she got to eat her cake, and especially enjoyed the peanut butter frosting. Happy birthday Lucy!

Boswell gobbled his cake down then insisted on helping Quinn with his! Next we celebrated Arlo's birthday. He was very unsure about his party hat, but was back to his energetic self when him and party guests Tex, Illy, and Truman got individual playtime before the photo shoot. The group decided they wanted to be different then the rest and struck their own creative poses for the photo.
November 4th-Factoid for today:
Dogs have the ability to sense changes in static electricity and barometric pressure. Because of this, dogs can often predict changes in the weather and can even sense when a storm is coming.

It was lots of fun for all! Thanks to Becca for taking all the great pictures! Click here to see all our winners!
October 28th-Today we partied with two terrific dogs for their birthdays! First was Murphy's birthday party. He was a little scared of his hat, but it was all worth it when he got to dive into his cake! He invited friends Rascal, Colby, and Ayden to his party. Next we celebrated Oakley the husky mix's birthday. She wasn't too fond of her hat either, but it didn't seem to bother her when she was devouring her cake! Oakley shared her birthday with brother chimo and their close family friend Sugar. Happy birthday Murphy and Oakley!!
October 27th- Today we celebrated crazy Freddie the Basset's birthday! Freddie had a wild time at his party with guests Maverick, Sacha, and Sparky. October 26th-Factoid for today: Why do dogs have tails?
A dog's tail is an extension of the spine. It helps them to keep balance when they run. A dog's tail position and motion is incorporated as a component of a complex system of body language that dogs use to show excitement or agitation.
October 24th- Happy Birthday to Scout the smallest, yet most energetic, Corgi that comes to Woof Dah! Scout invited Murphy, Cooper, and Tulip to her party. For as brave of a girl as she is when she's out in the playgroup, she could have used a little bit more courage when it came to dealing with her Birthday hat....she thought it was going to kill her!! Once the evil hat was removed, she was able to enjoy every last piece of her cake!
October 22nd- Congratulations to Annie, a super sweet Golden who does lots of therapy work at Fairview Ridges Hospital. Annie was recently featured in a National Magazine for Pet Therapy called "Interactions." You can see Annie's article posted on our photo board right here at Woof Dah! You go girl!
October 21st- Factoid for today: Why do dogs have whiskers?
Whiskers serve as a kind of antenna that tells the dog all kinds of information. It is a good navigation tool that is especially useful when the dog is foraging, especially when it is difficult to see at night. Dogs and other animals feel their way in the dark with the aid of whiskers. Whiskers also inform the dog about its surroundings and allow the dog to know if an opening is wide enough for it to fit through. They are an important tactile sense for all dogs and are most effective when left their natural length.
October 20th- Logan the Golden Retriever celebrated his second Birthday today! He invited his sister Ginger and friends Bam, Jack, Chance, Tucker and Keenan. YUM!
October 16th- Happy Birthday Jack! Jack celebrated with his sister Macey and friends Frida and Finnegan. His friends were glad to help him clean up the crumbs!
October 13th- Happy Birthday Gordy the Yellow Lab! Gordy celebrated with lots of friends that included Ike, Tex, Jetson, Gunner, and Digby. A BIG thanks to Gordy's mom for bringing tons of party favors for Gordy's puppy friends and treats for his human staff friends, too!
October 7th- A big (literally) Happy Birthday Wish goes out to Abby the Leonberger and her St. Bernard brother Ben. Abby really enjoyed eating doggie cake for lunch instead of dog food. MUCH better she says. (Although, she'd be happy to help you out if you ever needed help with some extra goodies) She invited long time friends Wacky Zachy and Newport to her party. She's known Zach for almost 5 years now! Wow! We wish you many more happy and healthy birthdays!

Dogs (and wolves and foxes) are descended from a small, weasel-like mammal called Miacis which was a tree-dwelling creature and existed about 40 million years ago.
October 3rd- Happy Birthday Coltrane! Coltrane celebrated with friends Onyx, Cooper, & Izzy. To say Coltrane was excited to eat his cake would be an understatement...he wanted that cake so bad, that he literally tried to eat the plate, too! Once he discovered the cake would go down a little easier than the plate, he tried to eat the cake in one big bite, of course!
October 1st- Happy Birthday Vinny! Vinny turned 3 years old today and celebrated with buddies Chewy, Bella, and Zoe! He was a little unsure of his cake until he got a taste of the peanut butter and then it couldn't go down fast enough! He managed to keep us entertained, too, when he got a big chunk of peanut butter stuck to the roof of his mouth a couple times and spent several minutes licking the air, trying to get it off!
September 30th- Today we celebrated Miss Eleanor's birthday. She looked adorable in her pink feathered hat and had a blast celebrating with fellow little dogs Mikey the boston terrier, Lucy the Dachshund, and Arlow the pug/chihuahua. A big thanks to Lucy's dad for the fantastic party bags!
August 26th- Factoid for today: Why do dogs bark?
Dogs often bark as an alarm to protect their territory by letting people, as well as other dogs know that something is approaching. In the wild, dogs bark to tell puppies to take cover and hide, and to also alert other dogs in the pack to assemble for action. Dogs sometimes bark when they are bored, anxious or excited. Sometimes even if they are simply hot, cold, or hungry.

Addie invited fellow Shepherd-ites Scout, Charlie and Frieda to her bash. Max, a very energetic Chocolate Lab invited Harley, Lhotse and Riley to his party. Max loved the camera and had a huge smile on his face the whole time! We have some creative group photos today as Jill experimented with our new photo software. We hope you like it! Best wishes and many more birthdays to come for Addie and Max!
August 15th- Happy Birthday to the amazing, unsinkable, unstoppable, Molly Brown! Molly lives up to her name and has more energy than most other labs combined! However, she was so wore out when it came to cake and picture time, she decided the group shot should be taken lying down! She ate her cake surprisingly slow (for a chocolate lab, that is) but left no crumbs for her chocolate lab friends, which included Cassie, Coco, and Tiger!
August 13th- Happy Birthday to Jack Jack. Yes, I wrote Jack twice on purpose. Jack invited his most special girlfriend, Tucci, to the party along with daycare pals Onyx and Bodie! Jack loved the lamb & oatmeal cake his mom made especially for him! He and Bodie also jumped into the swimming pool on their way back from the party for a special surprise birthday swim session! Very cute! Jack also had a special double decker blue and gold birthday hat for some very handsome photos!
August 9th- Factoid for today: How smart is your dog?
A recent study was done to take a look into the IQ of the average dog. Findings found that in a language development test dogs can learn 165-250 words which is equivalent to a 2-2.5 year old child. Basic arithmetic tests were also run where dogs watch as one treat and then another treat are lowered down behind a screen. When the screen gets lifted, the dogs, if they get arithmetic (1+1=2), will expect to see two treats. If they were given a false answer, for example, one treat or three treats appear, the dog acts surprised and stares at it for a longer period of time, just like a human kid would. These studies found that dogs can count to 4 or 5 and have the same understanding as a 3-4 year old child. Dogs also demonstrate spatial problem solving abilities. they can locate valued items, such as treats, find better routes in the environment, such as the fastest way to a favorite chair, and figure out how to operate latches and simple machines. But when it comes to social beings, this study found that dogs are at the same level as human teenagers with the way they interact with each other, and are concerned with who is moving up in the pack etc.
I bet you're wondering who scored the best on these tests?
Boarder Collies, Poodles, and German Shepherds (in that order)
August 7th- Happy Birthday to Sadie the Doberman mix and Jimmy James the Lhasa Apso! Sadie invited friends Willie and Oscar the mini dachshunds, Remmy the golden mix, and her look-alike Abby Rose. Jimmy James celebrated with Bo the mini dachshund, Lucy the Cavachon, and Abby Rose his girlfriend! Both dogs devoured their cakes! Sadie did a little dance for hers and ate the peanut butter and milkbone topping in one bite (candle and all) and Jimmy James would take a bite, then look up while he licked the peanut butter from the roof of his mouth for several seconds before taking another bite and repeating the process! A big thanks goes out to Jimmy James's parents for bringing the generous party favors and cake for Jimmy's human friends!
August 5th- Today, we had two awesome birthday dogs and two awesome birthday parties! Tweak, aka "Mr. Perfect" at daycare (who supposedly gets into mischeif at home), invited some spunky guests to his party including three cute, fluffy friends Samantha Jane, Kenyon and Lucy. He loved the peanut butter frosting on his cake and got it smeared all over his face and whiskers! Sierra started out her super-sized Golden Retriever party with her two siblings, Stetson and Autumn. Then, she added Millhouse, Auggie, Annie, Morgan and Ginger-all Golden Retrievers too! The party guests all had a great play session and were extra cooperative for photo time resulting in an unbelievable 8 Golden Retriever photo! It is quite a sight!

A BIG thanks to Digby's parents for all of the snacks and pop! As always the staff are very grateful to have all of the treats!

A special thanks to Jordy's mom for the tasty treats!

Factoid for today: Why do dogs pant?
Dogs only have sweat glands on their feet and cannot lose heat rapidly by perspirating from head to toe like humans. Dogs pant instead to remove body heat by evaporation from the surface of their tongue. Dogs also pant when nervous or excited.

Pepper, being the well behaved pooch that she is, sat nicely for our staff members to give her cake. Maple, being the cute pooch she is, gave us her best sad puppy eyes for our staff members to give her cake. Finally Luna, being the energetic pooch that she is, danced around on her two rear legs for our staff members to give her cake. Each pooch was equally deserving of the tasty reward that followed their trick.
July 11th- Happy Birthday to Nanuk the Yellow Lab on turning 2 years old today. After plenty of wrestling in the pool, he decided to settle down and eat some cake for the birthday party. We hope you'll continue your fatherly role here for many years to come, Calvin!
July 9th- Factoid for today: Can dogs see color?
Dogs are not technically colorblind. They can see colors, however, the colors are dim and faded. Also, dogs are dichromatic which means they see only two primary colors, blues and yellows. Dogs have 7 times less cone cells in their eyes then humans. (Cone cells are responsible for seeing color). They have much more rod cells then humans, which are responsible for seeing black-and-white and are more sensitive in lower light conditions. This is why dogs have much better night vision then humans.
If you have any interesting questions about dogs, please ask us and we will do our best to research and post the answers! - Bailey!

We hope you continue to make us smile for years to come. Thanks to his pals Bode, Duke, and girlfriend Rosie for helping to celebrate.
News flash: Onyx has decided to add Cooper B. to his BFF list. Cooper is a wonderful and very fast Beagle who Onyx played with all weekend. Their favorite game is wrestling. And, despite Onyx's increasing size, Cooper usually ends up on top :-)
June 20th-Today we celebrated Maggie's birthday. She just couldn't sit still due to all of her wiggles of excitement! But when it was cake time, all of that excitement got taken out on the cake, I mean, what cake?! It was gone just that fast! With a big birthday cake mess to clean up, she invited her good pals Louise the lab and Skippy the lab mix and Abby Rose, the shepherd mix to help. Hopefully your tummy isn't too full to celebrate and play away the rest of your special day! Happy Birthday Maggie!
We'd also like to send out a Get Well Soon wish to Mardi the fabulous Standard Poodle who recently tore his ACL ligament chasing bunnies in his back yard. We hope you feel better soon! (Most of you will recognize Mardi from daycare with his matching white brother, Leo and big smile) Ziggy the Puggle, Mardi's best friend, sends a special hurry back wish as well!
June 19th- Happy birthday to one of our own daycare "All-Stars", Skippy! If you haven't met already, Skippy will have no problem introducing himself, afterall, he is our little social butterfly. Since he is so popular, we had a hard time inviting a select few VIPs to attend his birthday. After picking up the whole cake at once, he demanded that we invite his best pals Vinny the Husky, Daisy the Yellow Lab and his new girlfriend Illy, a Husky/Lab/Shepherd mix. And after all of that hard core partying, Skippy could barely keep his eyes open as he went back to nap time. Sweet dreams and happy birthday Skippy!
I guess that today it becomes official that Onyx is, indeed, a real "stinker." After a run-in with a skunk under the patio deck at home, Onyx has a special new odor. He wasn't real happy with mom after his fizzing peroxide and baking soda bath that ended at 11pm on the back deck last night. But, thankfully, he has since forgotten about the whole ordeal. We are hoping that he has learned that skunks are not fun to play with. But, since we don't think this will be his last play date with a skunk, we are now prepared with an ample supply of skunk odor removing products, just in case :-)
June 18th- Happy Birthday to Sadie the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel! Sadie has been coming here since she was just a little timid puppy! It's wonderful to see how you've matured into a sophisticated lady your sister can look up to! Sadie celebrated with her King Charles sister Jayla, Cocoa the Maltese/Bichon mix, and Lacey, a King Charles puppy. The sisters were so cute as they shared Sadie's cake! And both girls ended up with plenty of peanut butter frosting on their ears!
June 17th- Today was wacky Zachy's 7th birthday! Fellow goldens Bodie, Bear, and Mick helped him celebrate in style. Zach didn't waste a second eating his cake! All the staff here at Woof Dah! have loved watching you grow into the mature gentleman you have become. Thanks to Zach's parents for the wonderful goodie bags!
Also congratulations to Onyx who recently had his 6 month old birthday on June 11th. He celebrated by graduating from being crated overnight to being a responsible young man who gets to sleep on the bed with mom. (He still gets his personal fan though, no fan = upset Husky!)
June 16th- Boomer the Aussie celebrated his 5th Birthday with us today and kicked off the party by jumping high in the air to snatch his cake right off the plate. We always knew he was a talented guy! His friends Casey and Izzy, along with his little sister Peeka helped to celebrate. Thanks to Boomer's mom for the party favors and delectable treats.
Also, congratulations to Gordy who had his photo added to our website today. Gordy has an awesome talent of carrying his food container around in his mouth (without trying to eat it!). So, Gordy was nice enough to pose for a pic with a baggie of dog food which is now featured on our "Food Packing Directions" webpage. Way to go handsome!
June 14th- Happy Birthday to the Chocolate Lab, Aspen! She performed a great magic trick which was making the cake disappear! How's that for talent?! June 5th- Happy 5th Birthday to Harley the black lab! Harley has been coming here almost all his life which is a very good thing for him because we really don't know what he would do without pooltime every day!! He shared his cake with Husky siblings Achilles and Akacia, and also took some really cute pictures with lab friends Jetson, Gunner, and Ike! We are so happy we get to see you and your brother and sister so often and don't know what we would do if you weren't here to show the puppies how pooltime and fetch is really done!
