New Dog Rules & Requirements

Woof Dah!

Check to See if Your Dog is Eligible to Play!

Requirements and Rules for New Clients

1.) Temperament/Behavior: Your dog must not have any history of aggression towards other dogs or people in an off leash play situation.  Must play nice with other dogs around toys, food and new people. We are quite strict about not allowing behaviors that are dangerous, disruptive or unpleasant for our guests to create an environment that is safe and comfortable for all of our guests. The following behaviors are not allowed: aggressive behavior towards other dogs or staff or any behaviors that become excessive such as barking, humping, whining, anxiety or rough play. We will inform you if these behaviors are seen and will discuss all the options available to keep these behaviors under control. If disruptive or dangerous behavior cannot be kept under control, you may be asked to pick up your dog and your dog will not be able to come back.

2.) Age: Must be between 16 weeks and 11 years of age on Orientation Day. Existing clients over the age of 11 are welcome!

3.) Spay/Neuter: Must be spayed or neutered if 8 months of age or older.

4.) Weight: Must be at least 15 pounds and not over 130 pounds.

5.) Breed: We LOVE dogs! All dogs! Unfortunately, our insurance provider will not allow the following breeds or mixes of the following breeds: American Staffordshire Terrier, Stafforshire Bull Terrier, American Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Akita, Akita Inu, American Bulldog, English Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Mini Bull Terrier, Blue Paul Terrier, Anatolian Shepherd, Caucasian Shepherd, Alapaha Bulldog, Bull Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, Dogue De Bordeaux, Dogo Argentino, Ca De Bou, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu, Cane Corso, Alano Espanol, Boerboel, Presa Canario, Broholmer, American Bandogge, Kangal Dog, Sage Koocheel, Gull Terrier, Gull Dong, Wolf Hybrid. French Bulldogs and French Bulldog mixes are acceptable. Additionally, we can accept great danes if they have the "stomach surgery" otherwise we don't or Greyhounds/Italian Greyhounds due to exceptionally fragile skin and bones.

6.) Health Conditions: The following health conditions make it unsafe for your dog to play with us: total blindness, severe or uncontrolled seizures, diabetes, cardiomyopathy, Addison's disease, bloat/gastric torsion, more than one leg amputation, exercise induced collapse or any other major or life threatening health problem or problem that prevents your dog from safely playing with other dogs in a group situation. Unfortunately, for insurance reasons, we cannot give injections.

7.) Vaccinations: Your dog must have current rabies, DHPP (distemper combination) and bordetella vaccinations for at least one week before Orientation & Evaluation Day. We will be requiring the influenza vaccine no later than 4 months after your 1st day for your dog's safety unless your veterinarian has been affected by the vaccine shortage. In that case, we will delay the requirement for you. (Please note that the bordetella and influenza vaccinations, like the human flu shot, do not protect against all strains of respiratory infections) Any initial series of vaccinations must also be complete. We accept titer tests in place of DHPP or rabies vaccinations after 1 year of age. Titer test documents must show that your dog has sufficient immunity and needs to have a retest date.  Other vaccinations, such as Lyme and Leptospirosis are strongly recommended, but not required at this time. Please talk to your veterinarian about the best vaccination strategy for your dog.

8.) Discipline: For general shenanigans, we will us a verbal command "no" and a squirt bottle of water if needed. If those methods are not working, and a behavior is disrupting the playgroup, a time out in the Carribean Cafe may be tried. Dogs behaving in a way that endangers the safety of themselves, other dogs or staff will be kenneled in our Carribean Cafe and their parents will be called. Dogs who are disruptive in Slumber Bay overnight will be kennelled in our Carribean Cafe until the morning.

9.) Prohibited Items: Bandages, cones, stitches, booties/socks, bandanas, bows, flea/tick collars, Apple Air Tags and similar items will be eaten by other dogs and are not allowed.

10.) Flea/Tick Prevention: A topical or chewable flea and tick preventative such as Frontline, Bravecto, or NexGard is required. A flea/tick collar won't be sufficient. It will be eaten by the other dogs.

11.) Attire: Your dog's collar must have a quick release buckle (where you pinch with 2 fingers to release it) and your dog's first and last name. If you don't have one, a loaner collar will be provided.

12.) Contagious Conditions: Dogs found to have puppy warts, kennel cough, worms, fleas, parasites, frequent or liquid diarrhea, vomiting or any other potentially contagious condition, illness or injury will be isolated in a kennel in our Caribbean Cafe. We will then contact the owner(s) to determine the best course of action. If an owner cannot be reached, the dog may be taken for treatment by a veterinarian at the owner's expense.

13.) Liability: The owner is responsible for injury or illness, including contagious illness.
